Munroe Falls, Ohio – After months of rehabilitation and recovery from a serious injury suffered last year, two-time Trans Am champion Amy Ruman is set to make her return to the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli competition this weekend. The Series returns to the racing capital of the world, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, IN (IMS), home of the Indianapolis 500, after a three-year hiatus.
Ruman has been sidelined since an off-track accident in late October that resulted in complex fractures to her right ankle, tibia, and fibula, requiring two surgeries and extensive titanium hardware placement. The injury forced her to miss the conclusion of the 2025 season as well as the opening rounds of the 2026 championship.
Now, after months of physical therapy and hard work, Ruman will return to the cockpit of the No. 23 McNichols Co./Valley Automotive Group Chevrolet Corvette at one of motorsports’ most iconic venues. Drivers will run on the challenging 14-turn 2.439-mile IMS Grand Prix Road Course, which uses part of the oval and the infield road course.
“I’m incredibly excited to be returning to Trans Am competition at the Brickyard and a bonus for my Dad to be back at the track on this Father’s Day weekend,” said Ruman. “The recovery process has been challenging, but I’m grateful for the support of my family, team, sponsors, fans, and medical professionals who helped make my return possible. We were able to get out and do a little bit of testing in the car, and while I’m continuing to build strength and mobility, I feel ready to get back behind the wheel. It sure has been tough watching all the action from the sidelines and I can’t wait to be back with my team and competing against such a talented field.”
The return marks an important milestone in Ruman’s recovery and the continuation of a racing legacy that spans three decades for Ruman Racing. As the Trans Am Series celebrates its 60th anniversary season, Ruman Racing also celebrates 30 years in the paddock, a journey that began when Bob Ruman took his first TA green flag at the 1996 St. Petersburg Grand Prix before handing the reins to daughter Amy in 2005.
A two-time Trans Am champion and Trans Am Hall of Famer, Ruman enters the Indianapolis weekend eager to regain valuable seat time and continue building momentum throughout selective races in the remainder of the 2026 season.
“We’re approaching this weekend with realistic expectations,” Ruman said. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been in the car, and there will certainly be an adjustment period. Our focus is on having a clean weekend, getting comfortable again, and continuing to progress each session,” explained Ruman.
The No. 23 McNichols Co./Valley Automotive Group Chevrolet Corvette will once again carry the familiar Ruman Racing colors as the team returns to action at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
