Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli is heading into the final three rounds of the 2019 season and this weekend begins the Southern swing for Ruman and the team at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) in Danville, VA.
After a shocking drop out at Watkins Glen, the team turned the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette around and is set to go for VIR. Currently sitting in third place in the points standings, the former two-time Trans Am Champion is looking to strengthen her points position this weekend with a top finish – at a circuit where Ruman has yet to capture a win.
“So far we have had a decent season with some ups and downs. The one thing about my crew and our team is we never give up; we just keep pushing no matter what. The Watkins Glen result was unexpected, but we are looking to bounce back this weekend at VIR. I love this place; it’s very challenging here, and I love the fans and the facility. We just need to be consistent in these final rounds,” stated Ruman.
The Trans Am Series is once again running in conjunction with SVRA’s Heacock Classic Gold Cup event. Drivers will take on the thrilling 18 turn, 3.27-mile track. 47 competitors are entered across all classes for the event, with 12 running in Ruman’s TA class.
Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Thursday through Saturday. The TA2 race Powered by AEM will be Saturday, September 21st at 10:40am and the TA/SGT/GT will run at 5:15pm ET. Both races are 101.37-miles, 31-laps. Please visit gotransam.com or virnow.com for ticket, full schedule, and all other weekend information.
With three rounds remaining in the Championship points race – Ernie Francis Jr. leads the TA class with 231 points with Chris Dyson in second place with 215, Amy Ruman in third – 170, Kerry Hitt in fourth – 138, and Simon Gregg in fifth place – 135 points.
