Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Ruman Racing team is heading South this weekend for the final round of the 2022 Championship Presented by Pirelli at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Texas. Heading into the finale, Ruman moved back into third place in the Championship points standings after a third-place finish in Round 10 at VIRginia International Raceway in September. Ruman is in an intense points battle between second and fourth positions with her fellow competitors Tomy Drissi (2nd) and Ken Thwaits (4th). The three have been battling it out and swapping positions all season long, with the spots up for grabs in the final race with just 11 points separating them.
This is the last stop on the 2022 SpeedTour, Trans Am’s eighth consecutive appearance at the legendary signature purpose-built Formula 1 track. Running in conjunction with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), fans will be welcomed with Texas sized fun and entertainment. The 3.4-mile world-class track is made up of 20 turns and dramatic elevation changes, including the 133-foot climb up to an extremely tight turn 1.
“I’m excited for the race this weekend at COTA! After facing some adversity at VIR and ending up taking third there, I am aiming to finish on a high note and move up to second overall. The heated points battle I’m in with Drissi and Thwaits has been really fun all year. I’ve done well here in the past, taking home a win and several podiums in the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette so this should be an awesome race!”
Eighty-two competitors are entered across all classes for the weekend, the largest fields ever in the Series, with ten running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Friday through Sunday. Both races will be held on Sunday November 7th, with the TA/GT race at 9:30am CT, followed by the TA2® race at 11:45am CT, each for 30-laps. Visit gotransam.com, speedtour.net, svra.com for tickets, schedules, and all other weekend information.
Chris Dyson clinched the TA National class championship and has 292 points, Tomy Drissi is second – 219, Amy Ruman is third – 213, Ken Thwaits fourth – 208, and David Pintaric is fifth – with 130 points. The season will end Sunday evening with the annual Trans Am Honors Gala where the hard work and dedication of drivers, teams, and workers will be celebrated.
