Munroe Falls, Ohio (30 May 2012) – Fresh off a podium finish in Round 2 of the Trans Am championship at Lime Rock Park driving the No. 23 McNichols Co./Goodyear/Cenweld Corvette, Amy Ruman is set for another busy few days of racing as she gears up for the BFGoodrich Tires Great Lakes Super Tour Double National event held at her home track of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend.
Ruman aims to carry her podium momentum into the GT-1 double header as she returns to the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course as the defending race winner. With years of experience in the National GT-1 ranks, the Ohio driver has won the past three Mid-Ohio races over the past two years. The 2011 GT-1 events saw Ruman qualify on the front row in both races – driving from the pole to win Race 1 and driving from second on the grid to claim victory in Race 2.
In addition to the goal of claiming victory for the third year in a row, the Ruman Racing squad will also look to make the most out of the race weekend to prepare for Round 3 of the Trans Am championship which will be held at Mid-Ohio next weekend. With the team getting acquainted with the new Corvette C6 equipment, every lap is helpful and the SCCA weekend should provide another chance to grow the set-up notebook ahead of the big home Trans Am event.
“Luckily, the calendars matched up for us to get a shot at running the double National at Mid-Ohio right before Trans Am race next week, a perfect opportunity to do more testing,” said Ruman. “It’s been busy for us with Mosport, Lime Rock Park, and now two weekends in a row at Mid-Ohio – four race weekends in a row! But we love it and I’m really looking forward to the next two at my home track!”
Following two rounds of Trans Am competition, Ruman is currently third in the championship standings.
The Mid-Ohio Double National kicks off on Friday with qualifying followed two days of racing on Saturday at 1:55 ET and Sunday at 3:25 ET.
