Munroe Falls, Ohio – After a rough start to the season in the first two Trans Am Series Championship Rounds, Ruman had her sights set on a podium finish at the Braselton, GA, Road Atlanta track, but fell just shy of the podium taking home a solid fourth-place finish.
The TA class had a tight qualifying session on Friday afternoon and Ruman started in seventh for the Saturday race in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Chevrolet Corvette. Ruman was lucky to make qualifying after hitting some oil on track and having a mishap with the concrete wall in the morning practice session. The team had less than two hours to make repairs to the No. 23, but miraculously pulled it off in time to make some qualifying laps.
It was raining early Saturday morning but dried as the sun came out for the race. Ruman’s strategy was to not make any mistakes early on and to settle in and let the race come to her. She moved into sixth place on the start and had great battles with Pintaric, Drissi, and Keith Grant throughout the race.
“I had a fun race at Road Atlanta, unfortunately our grip fell off halfway through the race and we faded a bit at the end. It was too bad we missed out on a podium finish I really could’ve used the extra points,” expressed Ruman. “We have been running fast the past few races, just have had a lot of adversity along the way this year. The guys have been working nonstop with a very busy schedule to start the season off, so we are looking forward to the break in the schedule over these next few months to go through the car thoroughly and be ready again for Lime Rock at the end of May.”
After Round 4, Chris Dyson takes the TA National class championship lead with 285 points, followed by Matthew Brabham in second – 280, Tomy Drissi in third – 254, David Pintaric is fourth – 228, and Amy Ruman sits in fifth – with 222 points. The Series takes a break and will be back in action May 25th-29th at Lime Rock Park, CT.
