Munroe Falls, Ohio – The 2022 Trans Am Championship Presented by Pirelli came to a close this past weekend at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Texas. The points battle for second through fourth positions were up for grabs heading into the final race, but the final outcome remained unchanged between Drissi, Ruman, and Thwaits.
COTA was the last stop on the 2022 SpeedTour, where Amy Ruman and team were hoping to take over the runner up position in the Championship when the checkered flag flew. The team struggled a bit with grip and speed all weekend, qualifying the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette in ninth and ultimately finishing in sixth in the race.
“For some reason I couldn’t get a good rhythm going all weekend. We struggled a bit to be fast here which was super frustrating. Sixth isn’t that bad, but when you are fighting for points we just didn’t get the job done,” stated Ruman.
“We had a very solid showing taking home third in the Championship. I couldn’t be prouder of this Ruman/McNichols team, they worked non-stop all season long. We had high moments and some low moments, great finishes and adversity, but never once did we give up. That’s what makes a Championship team – and that’s what we are, two-time Champions, just not again this year. Also, I want to thank my sponsors and partners McNICHOLS CO., ECR Engines, OMP Racing, Ultimate Performance, Pro-System Brakes, COOLSHIRT SYSTEMS, 6xdgearbox for their unbelievable support this year, we couldn’t do it without them. Special thanks to my family, friends, and fans for your unwavering support from all over, I love and appreciate you all!” exclaimed Ruman.
Final standings for the TA National class championship – Chris Dyson was first with 325 points, Tomy Drissi second – 238, Amy Ruman third – 233, Ken Thwaits fourth – 231, and David Pintaric fifth – with 130 points.
