Munroe Falls, Ohio – After a long eight-week summer break in the schedule, the Trans Am series is back in action this weekend as the series is set to be part of the NASCAR Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
The Trans Am 3-Dimensional Services Next Dimension 100 will be a huge event for the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette driver Amy Ruman, who grew up in the Akron, Ohio area. Ruman has long considered Mid-Ohio her home track since her early endeavors in racing.
While the Trans Am competitors enjoyed a long mid-summer break, the Ruman Racing crew has been diligently preparing the No.23 machine for the upcoming event. The first half of the season has been strong for Ruman’s campaign, as she seeks her first series championship title. She heads into Round 7 at Mid-Ohio sitting a close second to leader Doug Peterson in the Trans Am Championship battle. With just five races to go in the 2014 season, every finishing position is crucial at this pivotal point.
“I can’t wait to get back in the car this weekend at such an awesome event!” exclaimed Ruman. “This race is a huge one for us, we have so many family, friends, and fans on hand, I can’t wait for Trans Am to put on a show in front of my hometown crowd. We have a good schedule with a lot of track time to work on setup and times and I know we will make the most of it. This is a big weekend for us, so of course we are focused on winning this one!”
The Series is expecting an enormous field this weekend, 59 cars are registered between the three classes – TA, TA2, and TA3. The 59 entries equals the Trans Am Series ALL-TIME record for race starters (Sebring, 1967). Last year, Ruman took home a sixth-place finish in the Trans Am race on the 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio track.
The Trans Am class will see 20 entries all battling for the top step on the podium. Ruman will be taking to the track in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette four times throughout the weekend. Friday August 15 will be a busy day for the teams as they will have two practice sessions at 10:30 am and 12:30 pm, followed by one qualifying session at 4:45. The Series will be conducting a free drivers’ autograph session at 9:30 am on Saturday August 16, with open attendance for all. The 3-Dimensional Services Next Dimension 100 Trans-Am 45 lap race will start at 12:00 pm Saturday, before the NASCAR Nationwide race at 2:45 pm. Visit midohio.com for ticket, full schedule, and all other weekend information.
This weekend’s Trans Am Mid-Ohio race will also be broadcast on a tape delay on MAVTV, TuffTV, and on a variety of other regional channels across the United States. Air times and further details regarding the air date and time will be announced shortly.
