Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli will be back in action this weekend at the traditional Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park, CT, Round 4 of the Championship lineup, part of the 2021 SpeedTour. Changes in the 2020 schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Series to cancel the event last year.
This will be Ruman’s sixth appearance in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette at historic “bullring style” circuit. She scored two 3rd place finishes here in 2012 and 2015. The rapid, short 1.5-mile, seven-turn natural terrain road course has one of the highest average-speed laps of the season. A track that rewards momentum through the iconic circuit, it features corners with names like “Big Bend,” “The Uphill,” “West Bend,” and the final turn called the “Downhill,” a corner that launches the field down the front stretch as lap times click off in less than one minute!
“I’m excited to return to Lime Rock, it is such a fun, fast course. I am hoping the rain stays away and we get in a dry race for the fans, but the forecast is not looking promising. Cannot wait to run the uphill again, our cars catch a lot of air there and it can be exhilarating! I know the fans are happy to have us back after the race was cancelled last year, should be fun with a lot of festivities and great spectating!” exclaimed Ruman.
“On this holiday weekend, we get to do what we love and have some fun, but we must keep in mind the true meaning of Memorial Day weekend – to remember and honor those who have sacrificed their lives to serve for us in our Armed Forces. So, amid our bbq’s, picnics, and racing, let’s be sure to take time to remember and say a prayer for the service men and women we have lost and their families,” expressed Ruman.
Running in conjunction with Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), there will be an awesome showcase of modern and classic cars with an array of racing and festivities for the fans. There are 36 competitors entered for this weekend’s races across the four Trans Am classes, with 10 entered in Ruman’s TA class. Cars will hit the track Friday and Saturday for testing, practice, and qualifying.
The TA/XGT/SGT/GT feature race will be held at 1:20pmET on Saturday. The remaining TA2 teams will then take a day off as the track continues to uphold its decades-long agreement with the community not to stage races on Sunday. Activities will resume with qualifying and the race on Monday May 31st. The TA2 race will be at 1:30pmET – both races will be 68-laps (102-mi). The Championship points race is heating up – after Round 3, Ernie Francis Jr. leads the TA class championship with 79 points, followed by Chris Dyson in second – 78, Tomy Drissi in third – 73, Justin Marks in fourth – 65, Ken Thwaits sits in fifth – 58, Boris Said in sixth – 57, David Pintaric is seventh – with 54, and Amy Ruman is eighth – with 52 points.
