Munroe Falls, Ohio – After a disappointing outing at Lime Rock Park just a few short days ago, Ruman and team are headed south to VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) for Round 10 in the race for the Trans Am Series Championship.
A tough mechanical weekend took a toll on the team and the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette and back to back race weekends did not leave much time for repairs. However, the resilient team got right to work to fix the car and head to VIR.
“Last weekend was rough one for us,” stated Ruman. “We took a few hours after the race to assess the situation and get a plan together to make it to VIR. We were short some parts to make the necessary repairs, and I have to thank Tony Ave and everyone in the Trans Am paddock who has helped us out with parts, logistics, and all and all generosity. We are all fierce competitors on the track, but in the paddock we truly are a Trans Am family!”
Ruman is looking to improve her VIR results over last year’s as she suffered a transmission failure after running strongly in second place. “I really love racing at VIR. It’s a challenging track that takes a lot of patience and finesse. Just praying we have a smooth weekend with a great result,” said Ruman.
Following the Lime Rock race results, Ruman dropped to third place in the Trans Am Championship with 209 points. Peterson continues to hold the lead with 257 points and Gregg is in second place with 218.
The multi-class Series is expecting another large field logging 40 entries, with Ruman’s Trans Am class posting 14. The team is hoping to participate in the promoter’s test day on Thursday, September 25th pending repairs to the No. 23 machine. Official Trans Am practice starts Friday with two practice sessions at 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm ET, followed by one qualifying session on Saturday at 12:00 pm. Sunday, drivers will have a morning warm up at 8:15 am, then take the green flag for the 31-lap, 101.37 mile race at 12:45 pm.
