Lakeville, Conn. (24 May 2012) – On an all-American weekend, Amy Ruman is set to race her Chevrolet Corvette as Lime Rock Park rekindles its long tradition of hosting Trans Am on Memorial Day weekend. Following last weekend’s sixth place result in the season opening Trans Am event at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP) in Ontario, Canada, Ruman returns Stateside as the Trans Am Series travels to Lakeville, Connecticut for Round 2 of the 2012 championship.
With the team making just its second start with the new Corvette C6 entry, Ruman will look to build on the sixth place run at CTMP last weekend in the No. 23 McNichols Co./Goodyear/Cenweld Corvette as Trans Am headlines the traditional Lime Rock Memorial Day event..
With the weekend marking her Lime Rock Park debut, Ruman will be looking to readily learn the fast way around the quick 1.5-mile, seven-turn natural terrain road course. One of the highest average-speed laps of the season, the track rewards momentum through the iconic circuit, which features corners with names like “Big Bend,” “The Uphill,” “West Bend,” and the final “Downhill,” corner that launches the field down the front stretch as laps click off in less than one minute.
Ruman got a head start on that learning process with some laps under her belt at the track earlier this week as she took part in the traditional Test and Tune Tuesday. The two-day race weekend features a compact schedule which will see Ruman Racing continue to learn and fine tune their new C6 Corvette machine throughout two practice sessions ahead of Friday’s 30-minute qualifying session. In a schedule that only happens in Connecticut, the Memorial Day weekend event will feature the 100-mile Trans Am race on Saturday as the track continues to uphold it’s decades-long agreement with the community not to stage races on Sunday.
“I’m excited about Trans Am coming back to Lime Rock Park and for us to go straight from the Canadian Tire race last weekend to another race back to back is very exciting—after waiting all winter for the season to start we get to have two races on two weekends!” said Ruman, whose father Bob will help steer the set-up on the Corvette entry for Ruman Racing. “We had a solid start to the year last weekend, and I’m happy that we get to go right back to the track and hopefully build on that again this weekend so I’m really looking forward to it.”
On-track action will kick off on Friday with practice at 11:50 AM and 3:10 PM prior to qualifying at 5:30 PM. The green flag will drop on the 59-lap race Saturday at 1:15 PM (ET).
