Munroe Falls, Ohio (6 June 2013) – The summer season of racing is picking up even more speed and it’s time for Round 4 Trans Am action! It’s been two weeks since the previous round of the Trans Am Championship at Lime Rock Park and the Ruman Racing team has been very busy preparing for this weekend’s Finger Lakes Wine Country Classic event at Watkins Glen International.
The team used their backup car for the Lime Rock Park race following an incident with their newer C6 Corvette machine at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, but the team has worked long hours to have the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette repaired and ready for race action.
Racing in Ruman’s former Trans Am Corvette and despite challenging, unpredictable, and largely unfavorable rainy and cold weather conditions at the quick 1.5-mile Lime Rock Park circuit, Amy Ruman drove to a fifth place finish. That result, thanks to the huge team effort from Ruman Racing, pushed her to fourth in the Trans Am championship with three rounds of racing now in the books.
The Ohio racer, who scored a place on the podium with her run to third in the Sebring season-opener earlier this year, will look to return to the podium this weekend at a track where she has enjoyed a long history of success.
Ruman scored her fourth consecutive Trans Am podium finish of the season last year at the Watkins Glen road course when she raced to a runner-up result at the historic track. Ruman has also taken eight trips to the Watkins Glen podium in SCCA GT-1 competition including a win last year and two victories in 2010.
“My hat is off to the team—not only did they have to put all the work into getting the old No. 23 ready to go for Lime Rock, they had to work long hours getting the newer McNichols No. 23 repaired, loaded, and good to go for Watkins Glen this weekend,” said Ruman. “It has been a lot of work for the guys, but hopefully I can make it all worth the effort and pay them back with a strong finish at the Glen. I love that track—everyone does. It is good to see Trans Am race on these classic tracks, and I think everyone is excited about the momentum that the series has going into the summer.”
Once again the on-track competition will be fierce as the Trans Am Series continues to see growth among its race entries with 35 cars expected for Sunday’s race – marking the largest Trans Am field at the famous road course since 1998. Ruman will look to use her vast experience and knowledge of the 3.4-mile scenic New York track to her advantage as she pursues a return trip to victory lane.
The expanded paddock will also keep Ruman busy on track, as the TA class will likely be mixing it up as the high-powered leaders lap the TA2 and TA3 traffic.
Ruman will participate in two practice sessions on Friday which will take place at 11:10 AM (ET) and 4:00 PM (ET). A 20-minute qualifying session will set the grid on Saturday at 11:15 AM (ET). Sunday will see a Trans Am warm up from 11:25 AM – 11:40 AM ahead of the 29-lap, 98.6-mile race which begins at 3:15 PM (ET).
