Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Championship Presented by Pirelli season started off right with a beautiful sunny and hot Florida March weekend at Sebring International Raceway.
The sixty-one competitors put on two great races. Amy Ruman dusted off the cobwebs from being out of the car the last few months, and immediately went to work posting solid lap times in testing and practice. Qualifying wasn’t until 5:30pm Saturday night, introducing a nice glare from the setting sun as the drivers battled for the pole. Ruman qualified the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette 8th on the tight grid for Sunday’s race.
When Sunday’s green flag flew, cars shuffled and traded spots going almost five wide into turn one. Ruman swapped some positions in the first few laps, ultimately settling in behind the No. 0 driven by Jordan Bupp. The two had a great battle going for the entire race, seemingly driving equally matched race cars. The pair moved up after a few mid-race restarts and some attrition along the way, with Ruman taking home is solid 5th place finish despite a tight race for third in the last few laps.
“Even though we didn’t make the podium this weekend, I’m still pleased with our 5th place performance. We battled a few handling issues during qualifying, but they got a bit better for the race. I’m looking forward to Atlanta in a few weeks; we usually run strong there. It was a great weekend and we had a lot of amazing fans there to enjoy the Trans Am racing!” remarked Ruman.
Lawrence Loshak leads the TA class championship after Round 1 with 35 points, followed by Chris Dyson in second – 27, RJ Lopez in third – 25, Jordan Bupp in forth – 23, and Amy Ruman sits in 5th – 21 points.
