Munroe Falls, OH – The Ruman Racing team is heading west to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI for the 54th running of the famed SCCA June Sprints National. This will be Amy Ruman’s second appearance at the June Sprints and second time driving the Road America circuit. Last year Ruman, piloting the #23 McNichols Co./Goodyear/Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette, was running in 3rd position when she suffered a front suspension failure with 3 laps to go. She held on and finished the race in 8th with a broken car.
There are more than 500 entrants expected for this race, the second largest SCCA event following the SCCA National Championship Runoffs. There are expected to be more than 20 GT-1 entrants for this 15-lap race on the 4-mile Road America track. One of the reasons drivers compete in this race is to earn the “first jewel” in winning the Triple Crown title. To earn the SCCA Triple Crown Award a driver must win each of the following challenges: the June Sprints National, their home Division’s National Points Championship, and the SCCA National Championship at the Runoffs.
“I am looking forward to racing at Road America again and I think I have a good shot at winning this year. I was running really well here last year, until we encountered that mechanical problem,” stated Ruman. “The crew has been giving be a really good car this year, so I think we should be fast.”
The June Sprints schedule runs from June 18-21 with a test day on Thursday, practice on Friday, and qualifying on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. The GT-1 race will take place late Sunday afternoon.
SCCA will have live timing and scoring for the event, beginning with practice Friday morning. For live timing during the June Sprints weekend, log onto http://www.livetiming.net/SCCA/club/livetiming.asp.Video coverage for the Sprints will also be available on the www.GoRacingTV.com website. “This is going to be a monumental event not only due to the significance of what the June Sprints means to SCCA competitors as part of the Triple Crown, but also because this is the first time the Sprints will be videoed and rebroadcasted for the world to view,” said Errol Tucker, producer of GoRacingTV.com. “We will bring the action directly to the viewers’ monitors from cameras strategically placed around the track, along with video from in-car cameras, as well as car data overlaid on to the video.” Viewers will also have the ability to view the scrolling running order display to track driver position. GoRacingTV.com will also conduct interviews with participants throughout the weekend. For all other event information, please visit www.junesprints.com.
