Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Championship Presented by Pirelli is heading to the West Coast starting this weekend for Rounds 4 and 5 of the 2022 schedule. The West Coast swing will kick off this weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Monterey, California. The following weekend teams will have a quick turnaround and head directly to Sonoma Raceway, Sonoma CA as part of the 2022 SpeedTour running in conjunction with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA).
After qualifying fifth, Ruman took home a fourth-place finish at Road Atlanta in March. “I had a fun race and battle with Thwaits at Road Atlanta, unfortunately our grip fell off halfway through the race and we faded a bit in the end. It was too bad we missed out on a podium finish there,” expressed Ruman.
Last year at Laguna, Ruman suffered from damage after she was hit during the race yet managed an eight-place finish after having to pit for repairs. This will only be Ruman’s the fourth time running at Laguna, once in the Women’s Global GT Series (WGGT) in 1999 and then in the Trans Am Series in 2019 and 2021.
The famous West Coast circuit is an 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course, known for its unique section of the course called the corkscrew – turns 8 and 8A – a hard-left, hard-right combination. The corkscrew drops 59 feet between the entrance of Turn 8 to the exit of turn 8A—the equivalent of a 5½ story drop—in only 450 feet of track length. From Turn 8 to Turn 9, the elevation falls 109 feet, or just over 10 stories.
“We are off to another set of back-to-back challenging race weekends and a long way from Ohio! It’s exciting to be competing at these famous California circuits. I cannot wait to run the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette down through the famous corkscrew again! Then we head to Sonoma Raceway. I have only competed there one time in my career, hopefully we will come up to speed quickly,” commented Ruman.
Sixty-one competitors are entered across all classes, with seven running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, qualifying, and races will take place Thursday through Sunday. The Trans Am TA/XGT/SGT/GT feature race will be Saturday, April 23rd at 1:05pm, and the TA2® race will be Sunday at 2:00pm, both races are 45-laps (100.7-mi) – all times listed are PT.
