May 27, 2002 – RUMAN BRINGS HOME 9TH AT LIME ROCK
Lime Rock, CT – After a trying weekend of chasing troubles at Lime Rock, Bob Ruman secured a top-ten finish in the session that counted-the race. Ruman now has two top-ten finishes in the first three races this season, ninth at Lime Rock and fifth at Long Beach.
Ruman qualified 15th in Saturday’s qualifying session. “We were extremely disappointed with the qualifying run but knew we needed to focus on the race and solve the troubles.” Monday’s race had excellent racing conditions and a large crowd was on hand. Ruman picked cars off one by one and had a successful pit stop. At one point in the race, Ruman came over the turn 5 hill and hit oil on the track. “I went sideways and barely hung on,” exclaimed Ruman. “It sure gave the fans a good show!” He took the checkered in 9th place.
“The Cenweld/McNichols Co. Corvette was much better in the race,” explained Ruman. “It was a tough weekend. We kept trying to hone in on the set-up to get the car to stick in the corners, but the right combination was evasive for some reason. Then we had engine trouble in the morning’s warm up session and we opted to change motors. I’m pleased we finished in the top-10 and I’m looking forward to Mid-Ohio, our home turf.”
