Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park, CT, last weekend was packed with patriotism, fun, entertainment, and tons of action.
Sunny weather prevailed and the TA field was tight during Saturday’s testing and practice sessions. However, the skies opened up with rain just as the TA class was about to go out for qualifying Monday morning, forcing the class to qualify in the rain. Shortly after, the rain let up and things started to dry out for the 1:15pm race.
The field took the green and in turn one contact was made between Andretti and Dyson, sending Dyson spinning in front of Menard and Ruman—fortunately both narrowly escaped contact with Dyson. In the process, Ruman got shuffled back, losing multiple positions to the GT cars. A few turns later, entering the Paul Newman straight, a GT car got loose, and the line checked up at the acceleration point causing an accordion effect. Ruman and one of the GT’s collided, causing damage to the left front of the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette. The damaged bodywork was rubbing on the left front tire and progressively got worse forcing Ruman to pit lane for a new tire and to fix some of the damage. She reentered the race laps down and started chipping her way back through the field eventually crossing the finish line P7 overall, and P5 in the TA class.
“What a huge disappointment for me, the team, and the fans. I barely missed hitting Menard and then Dyson, and then I got caught up in the traffic. Unfortunately, we had to pit under green flag conditions causing us to go several laps down. Otherwise, the weekend was awesome, the fans here are spectacular, but I’m just frustrated that we didn’t get to have a good race,” remarked Ruman.
After Round 4, Paul Menard leads the TA National class championship with 364 points, followed by Chris Dyson in second – 345, Adam Andretti third – 322, Tomy Drissi is fourth – 314, and Amy Ruman sits in fifth – with 301 points.
The Series travels to Pitt Race International, PA, June 7th-9th.
