Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman had a strong weekend at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR), coming home with a podium in Round 10 of the Trans Am Series Championship. Unfortunately for Ruman, the charge for her first Trans Am title has ended.
Ruman qualified 4th in a tight field, with Paul Fix on the pole, Doug Peterson in 2nd and Simon Gregg 3rd. On a beautiful sunny Sunday race day, the large Trans Am field of 13 combined with 26 TA2/TA3 cars took the green flag at 12:45ET for the 31-lap race. Ruman, in the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette, immediately charged into 3rd place, passing Simon Gregg on the front straight. The top three, Fix, Peterson and Ruman, sprinted out away from the rest of the field. A double yellow at lap 16 brought them back together, but Fix, Peterson, and Ruman again pulled away from the field on the restart. Traffic continued to play a roll for everyone, but there was good clean racing all around. Ruman took the checkered flag in 3rd.
“The team worked so hard this past week to get us back out there after that tough weekend at Lime Rock,” stated Ruman. “I was very pleased to be back on the podium. We had a strong car, but never quite had the full grip we were looking for. Still, we were able to lay down good times and a strong performance. I want to congratulate Doug Peterson, who clinched the Championship here at VIR. We gave him a run for it this season, but we weren’t able to unseat him this year. We are still in a battle with Simon Gregg for 2nd place in the Championship and we’ll be heading to the season finale at Daytona in November focused on a race win.”
Following the VIR race results, Ruman remains in third place in the Trans Am Championship with 234 points just behind Gregg in second with 242. Peterson clinched the championship title this weekend with 286 points.
