Munroe Falls, Ohio – Another short off-season has come to a close and the 2021 Trans Am Championship Presented by Pirelli season will kick off this weekend February 21st at Sebring International Raceway. Two-time Trans Am Champion Amy Ruman will return for another full season with the series and a shot at another title run.
After the March 1st start to the 2020 season at Sebring International Raceway, suddenly the world was taken over by the global Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic. The series and teams were able to navigate and race a shortened schedule effected by circumstances of the strange and unprecedented times. Ruman ran the No. 23 C7 McNichols Corvette in the abbreviated 7-event, 9-race schedule which included two double feature events at VIR and Road Atlanta. Ruman earned three podium finishes—Sebring (3rd), Brainerd (2nd), and VIR-race 2 (3rd). She finished in fourth place in the TA class Trans Am Series Championship Presented by Pirelli.
In her quest for another Trans Am title, Ruman and the team will once again be backed by faithful longtime sponsor McNICHOLS CO., an Industrial and Architectural Hole Product Solutions company. The partnership agreement will mark a nineteen-year consecutive run of partnership between the two companies. “We are pleased to return and support Amy and the team for another thrilling season of Trans Am competition. We are looking forward to a great year. We wish Amy the best and all the teams a safe and exciting season of great racing!” exclaimed Scott McNichols, President at McNichols Co.
The crew has been working diligently on the #23 Corvette making sure everything is prepared and ready to go for Ruman to get back in action. “The talent pool keeps expanding in the Series and I’m looking forward to some awesome competition and races. Sebring is such a classic circuit, and the fans are fantastic. Our focus is to start the season out with a win or a strong podium finish like we did last year,” remarked Ruman. “Hopefully, the continued battle with Covid-19 will improve and we can continue to travel and race safely. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been adversely affected by this awful pandemic, and we hope everyone stays safe and healthy in the new year.”
Forty-nine competitors are entered across all classes for the Sebring opener at the 3.7-mile road course, with twelve running in Ruman’s TA class. Trans Am will run in conjunction with the SVRA Sebring Vintage Classic weekend as part of the 2021 SpeedTour. Testing, practices, qualifying, and races will take place Friday through Sunday. The TA2 race Powered by AEM will be Sunday, February 21st at 11:15am followed by the Trans Am TA/XGT/SGT/GT feature race at 1:35pm ET, both races are 100.98-miles, 27-laps.
