Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman and team are looking forward to getting back to the business of racing after the Series’ mid-summer six-week break. Ruman’s track record at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has been frustrating in the past, and she is hoping to turn that around this weekend with a home track advantage.
This weekend’s race is Round 7 of the 2017 Trans Am Championship presented by Pirelli, the halfway mark of the thirteen race schedule. Running in conjunction with the NASCAR Xfinity Mid-Ohio Challenge, Trans Am will feature two races this weekend, The First Energy Trans Am 100 and the First Energy Muscle Car Challenge. 51 competitors are entered for the weekend, and both races will be 101.96-miles, 45 laps around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile legendary course in Lexington, Ohio.
Last year Ruman faced mechanical transmission issues during the race and finished in 10th place. Ruman only lives about an hour away from the track she calls home, and is determined to do well here this weekend in No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette in front of her hometown crowd.
“I’m really looking forward to the race this weekend. Hopefully we can hit the reset button on the second half of this season and find our way back to some wins and collect crucial some points. In the off weeks, my stellar crew has gone through the No. 23 and made sure everything is ready to go. Mid-Ohio puts on a great event here and the fans love Trans Am, so I’m looking to help put on a great show for them on Saturday!” exclaimed Ruman.
“I am also thrilled to announce that I have become a OMP sponsored driver and will be debuting my new OMP driver’s suit and gear here at Mid-Ohio this weekend. Every driver wants the best safety protection money can buy, and OMP provides just that,” remarked the defending two-time TA Champion.
The weekend will start off with a promoter test day and official practice 1 on Thursday August 10th. Practice 2 and qualifying will take place on Friday August 12. The TA2 First Energy Muscle Car Challenge will start at 9:30am EST, followed by the First Energy Trans Am 100 – TA/3/4 at 1:00pm EST.
