Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman and team will be celebrating the 4th of July festivities over the holiday weekend during Round 6 of the 2021 Trans Am Championship at Road America, WI. The teams are heading north for back-to-back races after a quick turnaround from the race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course last week.
Ruman heads into the weekend fifth in the Championship points race after a respectable fourth place finish at Mid-Ohio moved her up in the standings. She qualified the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette seventh for the start of the TA race. Sunny skies and hot temperatures prevailed on Sunday, and Ruman had a great start moving up three spots in the first turn. She had some great battles throughout the race, but a late race caution prevented a shootout in the closing laps and Ruman finished fourth under a caution/checkered.
“I couldn’t be happier with our finish today,” said Ruman, who resides in Stow, OH. “I wish we had a chance for a restart at the end but we had a really good start at the beginning of the race. I passed three cars at the start, fell right in and I was with the lead pack. Unfortunately, our grip fell off a little bit, so we faded. We made headway back and worked back to fourth. I am very happy that we had a good solid finish, that’s just what we needed in front of our hometown crowd,” remarked Ruman in a post-race interview with Trans Am PR.
Running alongside the NASCAR Cup and NASCAR Xfinity Series, this weekend will mark the Trans Am Series 50th running at the famed Wisconsin circuit. The legendary 14-turn, 4.048-mile track is one of the fastest tracks on the schedule.
“First off, this weekend is about our celebrating our Nation’s independence and our service members! I want to thank and remember all our military personnel and the sacrifices they have made and continue to make for us. We are so incredibly blessed in this country to enjoy the freedoms that we have daily – so on behalf of the Ruman Racing/McNichols Co. team, we thank you!” exclaimed Ruman. “I love racing at Road America, it’s such a fast, long track that really showcases and allows us to put down the tremendous horsepower that these TA cars have. Last year, we had a transmission failure take us out of the race, so I’m focused on having a strong finish this weekend.”
Sixty-five competitors are entered across all classes for the weekend with seventeen running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Thursday through Sunday. The TA2® race feature race will be Saturday, July 3rd at 4:45pm CT followed by the TA/XGT/SGT/GT race on Sunday, July 4th at 8:00am CT, both races are 25-laps.
