Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli traditional Memorial Day Classic event at Lime Rock Park, CT was quite a weekend. Per usual, mother nature graced the teams with rain on Saturday for testing and practice for the TA/XGT/SGT/GT classes and a dry/wet race for TA2. Most TA class teams opted out of the Saturday sessions since Monday was going to be sunny for qualifying and race.
On Monday, Ruman qualified fifth after being on track for the first time all weekend in qualifying and had to shorten her session due to a mechanical issue on the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette. The crew had to scramble with just two hours between qualifying and the race to fix the issue in time to make the race grid. In typical Lime Rock fashion, the fan walk and pre-race festivities were incredible, which included a fly-over in honor of Memorial Day.
Ruman had a great start passing Brabham on the outside of turn one and settling in closely behind leader Dyson. Brabham passed Ruman on lap nine to regain second. Ruman and Thwaits found themselves in yet another heated battle putting on a great show for the fans. Thwaits made a pass on Ruman on lap 22 taking the final step of the podium leaving her to finish in fourth.
“What a race. I had a great car for the first half of the race, then we faded a bit and lost the podium. I’m bummed for my guys on this one, they worked so hard on the 23 in such a short time, I wish I could’ve held on to a podium finish. I have to give a shout out to all of the Lime Rock fans that came out and supported Trans Am, what a crowd to race in front of!” said Ruman.
Ruman and team are entrenched in a thrilling Trans Am battle for the Championship with only two points separating second, third, and fourth place at the halfway point of the 2022 season.
Chris Dyson leads the TA National class championship with 186 points, followed by Tomy Drissi in second – 135, Ken Thwaits in third – 135, Amy Ruman in fourth – 134, and Humaid Masaood sits in fifth – with 65 points.
