Munroe Falls, Ohio – Ruman and the team had their eyes on the prize this past weekend at Watkins Glen International, but an unforeseen circumstance cost her a podium spot as she took home another 4th place finish this season.
Ruman was fairly quick right out of the trailer, but a slight mishap at the beginning of qualifying cost her a bit of time during her run. Ruman started the 30-lap race in eighth position but set her sights on moving up through the field as fast as possible. She worked her way up and all the while in a heated battle with Loshak, eventually climbing as high as third when a mid-race caution came out. Ruman had a great restart when suddenly the ignition cut out as she started up the esses. Scrambling in the cockpit, Ruman messed with switches and switched to the back up ignition box eventually getting the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette to re-fire. Meanwhile, most of the field freight trained by her, but she went back to work picking them off one at a time. She closed over a 12 second gap down to about 4 seconds on third place finisher Gregg but ran out of laps to get close enough for a pass.
“Wow is all I can say…what a fluke issue we had. It’s so unfortunate for my guys, they worked so hard to give me a good car and to have an issue like that drop us back just stinks. We got robbed of a podium finish for sure. Despite our issue – I had some great battles and it was really a fun day. The fans were outstanding, I think this is the largest crowd we have ever had here!” commented Ruman.
The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli travels to Virginia International Raceway (VIR) September 20-23rd next week pending the outcome of hurricane Florence. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those effected by the storm.
