Munroe Falls, Ohio – Ruman got the redemption she was hoping for in Round 3, the South Florida Sportscar Challenge of the Trans Am Series Championship Presented by Pirelli – a solid 3rd place podium finish.
The first two races of the season netted less then optimal results for Ruman and team, so a podium finish was exactly what they needed to change course for the season. The Florida weather proved to be magnificent, albeit hot for the drivers, as the sun shined for the three-day weekend.
Ruman started from 6th place on the grid after a tight TA qualifying session on Saturday afternoon at the 2.27 mile “roval” style circuit. The race went green on Sunday morning and the top six of the field had a great race. Several swapped positions until a full course caution came out on lap 25, Ruman was in 5th. She settled in and kept pace in the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette, eventually slotting into third place on lap 28 after some contact between second and third place runner’s Chris Dyson and RJ Lopez. Ruman was within reach and pressuring second place runner Lawrence Loshak. She tried for a pass off the exit of the oval into turn one, but was not able to make it stick and took home third at the checkered.
“Gosh it really feels great to be standing back up here; it’s been a while. This was definitely a tough one today, hot and slippery but the 23 hung right in there with these guys. I just tried to stay consistent and be patient, and we capitalized on that today. I can’t thank my crew enough – they have been busting their butts to get us back in the front pack and their hard work paid off,” commented Ruman.
Ernie Francis, Jr. leads the Championship after Round 3 with 99 points, followed by Chris Dyson in second – 83, David Pintaric moves to third – 70, and Amy Ruman moves up to 7th – 54 points. The Series travels to Detroit, MI June 1-3rd for TA2 class only race, then all classes onto Indianapolis, IN, June 15-17th.
