Munroe Falls, Ohio – The South Florida sun was shining on all of the Trans Am teams as the Championship Presented by Pirelli raced at Homestead-Miami International Speedway this past weekend for Round 2 of the season.
The weekend started off very strong for Ruman as she led both practice sessions on Saturday morning in her No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette. She was edged out of second place during the qualifier Saturday afternoon and the top five were as follows: (1) Stanton Barrett 01:15.614, (2) Ernie Francis Jr. 01:16.211, (3) Amy Ruman 01:16.262, (4) RJ Lopez, 01:16.365, (5) Vinnie Allegretta 01:16.834.
Ruman took the green flag in third position Sunday afternoon. The top five ran closely, with positions changing from second place on back throughout the race, including two late race cautions which bunched up the field. Ruman captured another top-five finish.
“I thought the race was going to go a little better for us since we were so fast throughout the weekend. Despite posting the third quickest lap in the race, I just didn’t have it for them today. Congrats to Ernie (Francis Jr.) on his first TA win. I’m looking forward to Road Atlanta coming up in May,” stated Ruman.
The Championship points race tightens up as the top five have shifted a bit. Cliff Ebben remains in the lead with 54, followed by Ernie Francis, Jr. with 50, Vincent Allegretta – 47, Tomy Drissi -46, and Amy Ruman – 44 points.
