March 15, 2002 – Niki Ruman Will Race Spec Racer
at Summit Point SCCA National Competition on April 6-7
Washington, D.C. – Niki Ruman will race at Summit Point Raceway in the April 6-7 SCCA national event. The two mile Summit Point road course is located near Harper’s Ferry, WV, just an hour outside of Washington, D.C.
Ruman opened the 2002 season with an 18th place finish at the Moroso Winter National in Florida in January. The annual April Summit Point national always draws a large crowd of drivers and fans. The Spec Racer class typically has 30-40 competitors and will be race group 1 this weekend. Seven other race groups will be competing during the weekend’s racing activities, including open wheel Formula Atlantic, Formula Continental, and Formula 500; powerhouse GT-1 and GT-2 sports cars; and the Pro Vee Series.

There will be 8 different groups of race cars throughout the day. Ruman’s group will be Group 1 – Spec Racer (SR). The groups run in order, so Ruman will be on the track at the beginning of each of the three sessions.

Schedule: Saturday,April 6, 8:30-12:00 – Qualifying I (20 minutes for each group); 1:00-4:30 – Qualifying II (20 minutes for each group). Sunday, April 7 9:00-4:00 – 23 Lap Races by group(approx. 40 min. each).

From Washington and Northern Virginia Take the Dulles toll-road or Route 7 west past Leesburg toward Winchester, VA. (take the Route 7 Leesburg bypass to avoid downtown Leesburg). Continue on Rt. 7 west past Berryville, VA. Shortly after Berryville, turn right onto Route 632 (there is a gas station on the left). Continue on 632 until you reach the first “T” intersection. At that intersection, turn right onto Route 761. Continue on Route 761 until you reach the next “T” intersection. Make a right turn and follow 300 yards. The entrance is on the right.
From Maryland Suburbs Take I-270 north to Route 340 west towards Charles Town, W V. Continue on Route 340 through Charles Town. Go toward Route 51 west. Bear left at the three way stop sign onto Summit Point Road (Route 13) and drive eight miles. The entrance is
on the left.
