Munroe Falls, Ohio – There may be a hurricane hitting south Florida in the next few days, but that’s not stopping the Trans Am Series from hosting Round 9 at Homestead-Miami International Speedway this weekend. The Homestead event was held much earlier in the schedule last year in April, but was shifted to October for 2016.
The Series is banking on a sunny Saturday and Sunday forecast, but has already altered the schedule slightly. The Friday test day has been cancelled and changed to the load in day for the teams. Hopefully all the drivers, crews, and equipment will arrive there safely and in enough time for the event.
Amy Ruman, who took home the winning hardware last year at Homestead in her No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette, is looking for a repeat performance this year. Drivers will be running the same “roval” style configuration as last year’s race featured, making it a 2.27 mile/45 lap race on the joint road course/oval formation. Forty competitors are entered for the event. With the TA class entries at seventeen, Ruman will have her work cut out. Ruman suffered a mechanical failure at VIR a few weeks ago and has to bounce back this weekend.
“I am optimistic heading to FL that we can get back-to-back wins here. I’m confident we will turn around our misfortunes as of late starting this weekend. The points race has heated up just like last year, but I’m aiming to finish up the season strong!” exclaimed Ruman. “Hopefully the weather improves enough for us to travel and arrive in FL safely to be able to race. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who have been and will be impacted by hurricane Matthew.”
One official TA practice and “One Shot” qualifying will take place on Saturday, October 8th. Sunday will feature two Trans Am races – the TA2 race at 11:00 am followed by the TA/3/4 at 1:15pm, both at 102.15-miles 45-laps – all times listed are ET.
