Munroe Falls, OH – Sisters Amy Ruman and Niki Ruman Skinner raced in front of huge Canadian crowds this past weekend at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres in Quebec. Amy had a Trans-Am top-five finish, while Niki brought home respectable 13th and 14th place Pro Spec Racer finishes.
Trans-Am: Amy Ruman came on strong at Trois-Rivieres running the red #23 McNichols Co./Goodyear/Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette for Round 5 of the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series. The top three cars were extremely tight during and exciting 8am Saturday morning qualifier, as Ruman was inched out of the top two spots to take 3rd for Sunday’s starting grid. Tony Ave took the pole with a time of 1:03.437, Carlos de Quesada was second with a 1:03.967, and Ruman was third with a 1:03.988. In Sunday’s race, Ruman had a great start and moved into second, passing de Quesada into turn 1. Ruman stuck right with Ave for the first 4 laps, until she entered the brake zone in turn one on lap 5, when the caster link on the right front suspension broke forcing Ruman to head into the pit lane. The crew worked diligently to change out the broken suspension piece, sending her back out, but several laps down in the 60 lap race. Ruman came back with a vengeance, passing Ave once, and setting the second fastest time in the race, but she was unable to gain all the laps back and finished 5th in the Trans-Am class.
“While I was happy with qualifying and the start of the race, I couldn’t be more disappointed about the outcome,” said Ruman. “I was really fast here, and I think we really had something for Tony (Ave) today. I enjoyed this track and putting on a good show for the fans – even after we went several laps down. The Canadian fans here were just awesome!”
Pro Spec Racer: Niki Ruman Skinner qualified 18th for Friday’s SCCA Pro Spec Racer Series race, steadily improving her times and working out mechanical gremlins throughout the day. The evening’s race was exciting, with a lot of passing and close racing. Ruman took the checkered flag finishing 13th in the #23 McNichols/Ruman Racing/Dynasty Motorsports Spec Racer. Ruman Skinner qualified 14th for race 2 on Sunday. While rain threatened for the 8:25am race, it did not materialize, so the track dried from the previous night’s rain. Again, the start was exciting and there was close racing throughout the race. The 30 minute race was shortened due to a crash on the front strait, and Ruman finished 14th.
“I truly enjoyed racing at Trois-Rivieres this weekend. The fans were amazing and track was very fun. I hope to return again soon to the Pro Spec Racer Series, which guarantees good, close racing at every venue” said Ruman Skinner.
