Munroe Falls, Ohio – Everyone had a feeling that the 50th Anniversary season of Trans Am Series was poised to be a historical one – but no one could have anticipated such a thrilling finish in the premier TA class that’s about to go down. The chase for the Trigon Trophy will be decided on the outcome of the last two races of the 2016 season – Circuit of the America’s (COTA) and the finale at Daytona International Speedway.
The good news for Ruman – she has won at both tracks. As the season comes to a close, Ruman has high hopes for two more strong finishes as she looks to capture her second title in Trans Am. This is the Series’ second appearance at the purpose built Formula 1 track, joining the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) for a weekend full of “Texas sized” fun and entertainment. The race complex consists of a world-class track that is 3.4 miles long, made up of of 20 challenging turns, includes several dramatic natural elevation changes, and features a 133-foot climb up to an extremely tight turn 1.
Coming off a solid second place finish at New Orleans a few weeks ago in her No. 23 McNichols Co. Chevrolet Corvette, Ruman heads to Austin with a one-point advantage over second place. “We are down to the wire this weekend, these next two are must wins for us. I am determined to fight to the end and bring home that second championship! It’s going to be tough, but that’s what championships are made of,” stated Ruman.
The TA class field is set at 13 with a total of 47 entries for the event. Testing and official practice 1 will take place on Thursday November 3rd, then “Fast Five” qualifying and practice 2 will be on Friday. Saturday will feature two Trans Am races – the TA/3/4 at 10:50am followed by the TA2 at 4:00pm, both at 102.81-miles 30-laps – all times listed are CDT.
