Ruman Set for NOLA Motorsports Park – Trans Am Round 10

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman and her team will be traveling south again, approximately 1,050 miles south that is, from team operations in Ohio for Round 10 of the Trans Am championship. Trans Am drivers will be competing for the first time at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, LA.  The new addition to the schedule will host the Trans Am Series this weekend in conjunction with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association, SVRA.

Located just 14 miles from the French Quarter of New Orleans, NOLA presents a 2.75-mile, world-class track consisting of 16 turns, with a 5,200-foot straightaway.  The track offers a challenging smooth layout, hosted by recent track improvements.

After a washed out rainy weekend at VIR a few weeks ago, the teams are hoping for warmer, dryer weather.  Ruman in her No. 23 McNichols/Don Sitts Auto Chevrolet Corvette, currently still controls the lead by 14 points in the premier TA class of Trans Am Championship points standings, and is looking to stay there.

“I’m excited to see what New Orleans is all about!” piped Ruman.  “I have never been there before or to the NOLA track.  I’m looking forward to the southern hospitality that everyone is always talking about.  I really need a good finish here, its clutch time.  I will try and learn what I can from every session and make as many improvements as we can to the setup before the race on Sunday.”

The track is hosting a test day on Thursday October 8th. The first official Trans Am practice will be at 10:45am on Friday, then “Fast Five” qualifying for the TA class at 3:30pm, followed by TA2 and TA3. Saturday will be the second official practice session at 10:20am. After a morning warmup at 8:15am, the combined field will see the green flag on Sunday October 11th at 12:45pm for the 37-lap, 101.75-mile race.  All times listed are CDT. Rain Factor Hampers Ruman from Top Step at Trans Am VIR

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Two words can describe the weather at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) this past weekend – wet and miserable.  The Thursday track test day was the only day the Trans Am drivers saw the sun, and for the rest of the official weekend the rain never stopped.

Friday qualifying was called off due to safety in the rain, so the grid was set by the championship points standings, with Amy Ruman in her No. 23 McNichols/Don Sitts Auto Chevrolet Corvette starting Sunday’s race from the pole position of the 49-car field.  The green flag flew under rainy and wet conditions, and Ruman stayed out front leading the pack in first for 7 laps, with Fix running in second.  It didn’t take long for the race to see its first cautionary period after a few incidents.

The race went back to green and the ever changing track conditions caught up with Ruman as she slid a bit into turn one allowing Fix to get by.  The next lap wasn’t good for Ruman as this time she slid off track causing the grill to fill with grass forcing a pit stop to clean the grill out. She rejoined the combined three class field in 37th position, 8th in TA class, and immediately went back to work when the course went green again.  Ruman, who has been known to “come back” in a few races this year, managed to garner a 5th place TA class finish, and 11th overall.

“What a dreadful weather weekend this was for racing!  Unfortunately, we cannot control mother nature and she played a huge factor in the outcome of our race.  When we went back to green after the first caution, I think oil was on the track, and the conditions totally changed. People were sliding off all around me. I was in a great rhythm the first five laps, and I thought I had it. I managed to work my way through the pack, but then the race was checkered early or I think I may have had a few more spots,” explained Ruman.  “It’s not how I anticipated the weekend to go, and Fix closed the gap on us, but there are three races left – and I am in it to win it.  We still have to take it one race at a time to win this championship!”

Ruman remains first in the championship points standings, but her 24 point gap was impacted as second place runner Paul Fix won the race, cutting her margin to 14 with three races remaining on the schedule.

Ruman Ready for Southern Swing in Final Four Trans Am Rounds

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman and the team are loaded up and ready for a Southern swing and the final four rounds of the Trans Am 2015 schedule – VIR, NOLA, COTA, and Daytona.

Ruman has a podium finish and the Trans Am title on her mind as she heads into Round 9 at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) this weekend.  She finished a strong 3rd at the event last year, and is looking to improve two spots this year and make it a win.

“I need to get my mojo back this weekend,” stated Ruman.  “We have had damage in the last two rounds to the No. 23, so I am looking for a clean, fast, winning weekend like we had earlier in the year. I want to finish these last four races out strong, just like we started the year. I’m looking forward to this weekend, VIR is an awesome challenging track!”

Ruman finished 6th in the last race at Road America after a wet and wild race day, but the crew has the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette ready to take on the exciting iconic 18 turn, 3.27-mile VIR track. She will be targeting an overall victory to try and boost her lead of 24 points in the Championship standings. 56 entries are slated for Sunday’s race, with 13 competing in the TA class.

The track is hosting a test day on Thursday September 24th. The first official Trans Am practice will be at 12:00pm on Friday, then “Fast Five” qualifying for the TA class at 5:40pm, followed by TA2 and TA3. Saturday will be the second official practice session at 11:20am. After a morning warmup at 8:15am, the combined field will see the green flag on Sunday September 27th at 12:55pm for the 31-lap, 101.37-mile race.  All times listed are EDT. P6 for Ruman at Wet and Wild Road America Trans Am Race

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Let’s just say the weather did not cooperate on race day for The Next Dimension 100, presented by the 3-Dimensional Services Group, at legendary Road America, Wisconsin, this past weekend for Round 8 of the Trans Am Championship schedule.  Competitors saw dry conditions for the practice and qualifying days, but when race day rolled around it was wet, foggy, and chilly for the early morning Saturday race.

Amy Ruman, in her No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette, was just edged out of second place during qualifying, placing her third on the grid for the start of the race. Ebben (2:05.321), Fix (2:05.906), Ruman (2:05.959), Peterson (2:06.462), and Gregg (2:06.462) were the TA “fast five” qualifiers Friday morning.

At the 9:30am (CT) race starting time, conditions were not favorable for racing. The drivers took to a wet/damp track under double yellow with a series of pace laps hoping for the fog to lift, but it did not.  The field took the green flag with a single file start. Everyone in the TA class ran Hoosier slick tires. As they headed into turn one, Ebben, Fix, and Ruman traded spots, but Ruman found herself quickly sliding off the wet track into a tire wall.  Ruman was able to continue, but fell way back in the combined three class field and last in the TA class.

Keeping her head down, Ruman went into recovery mode and began working her way back through the deep field.  Drying track conditions, many passes, and a few caution periods helped Ruman close the gap to the front.  Now in sixth position in TA, she found herself in contention for the top five when a late race caution came out due to multiple incidents on the track. The race never went green again and was checkered early.

“Unfortunately, I made a mistake and this is not how I wanted today to go, but we made the best of another bad situation,” said Ruman.  “We made back a few points on Fix and that’s what matters right now, the big picture – the championship. I feel bad for my crew though, they just finished fixing all the bodywork after the Mid-Ohio debacle, now they will be back at it again!  Oh well, I guess it’s called job security,” laughed Ruman.

With four races to go in the season, Ruman increased her points lead over Fix by 2 – making it a 24 point difference.  Ruman remains in the lead with 230, Fix in second with 206, and Peterson in third with 183 points.

Ruman Looking to Rebound at Road America Trans Am Round 8

Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Series will be back in action this weekend at one of the most famous road courses in the US – Road America, WI.  Amy Ruman will be back in her No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette after a wild and tough ending to her race just a week and a half ago at her home track Mid-Ohio.

Ruman will be looking to rebound and return to the front of the pack this weekend, where she has steadily been running all year.  Ruman, still in command with a 22 point lead in the chase for the coveted Trans Am Championship, is looking to pick up her sixth win of the season at the 14-turn 4.048 mile track.  Trans Am returns to Wisconsin for its 35th appearance at one of the world’s most legendary road courses and one of the fastest tracks on the schedule for The Next Dimension 100, presented by the 3-Dimensional Services Group, in conjunction with NASCAR Xfinity Series weekend.

“What happened at Mid-Ohio is behind us now, there is nothing we can do about the points that were lost and the damage that was done – we are moving on to the next race,” expressed Ruman.  “My crew has worked day and night getting the car back together and I owe it all to them – they are one of the hardest working crews in the business!  I am looking forward to running Road America this weekend, and our focus remains winning the Championship.”

There will be plenty of action this weekend with an expected combined-class 64 car field, the largest for Trans Am at the Wisconsin road course since 1977.  The Trans Am class will see 18 entries, as Ruman tries to fight back to the top step on the podium.  The track is hosting a test day on Thursday August 27th along with the first official Trans Am practice starting at 2:50pm.  “Fast Five” qualifying for the TA class is slated for 8:30am followed by TA2 and TA3, and the second official practice session will be at 10:30am. The combined field will see the green flag on Saturday morning August 29th at 9:30am for the 25 lap, 101.2-mile race.  All times listed are CDT. The points race is heating up with just five races left in the season.  Ruman (209) is in the lead, followed by Fix (187), and Peterson is sitting in third with 156 points.
