Fireworks Fizzled for Ruman – Grabs 5th at Brainerd Ryan Co. Independence Day Classic

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Ruman and team did not get the turnaround they were hoping for this past holiday weekend at the Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic held at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR), MN.

Despite landing a strong third in qualifying with only two hot laps due to a driveshaft failure, Ruman was unable to capitalize and move up during the race on Sunday in her No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette.

She had a great start and was running a strong third place for the first part of the race, with the top three competitors nearly 13 seconds ahead of fourth place until a caution bunched the field back together.  Ruman had great battles with Lawrence and Ave, and eventually settled into fourth until the last lap.  Francis Jr. spun with a few laps to go, and in an effort to catch and fight him for third Ruman also lost grip and spun. She took home fifth at the end of the day.

“Hum, what can I say other then I’m disappointed in my performance. It seemed like we had a really good car the first half of the race and was able to keep pace with the leaders, then we just faded. This is just the way our year has gone, but we will keep pushing and trying to get back up front no matter what,” stated Ruman.

The start of the TA/3/4 race was significantly delayed due to an on track incident in the SCCA regional race held immediately before. Unfortunately, the accident resulted in a fatality of one of the Trans Am Series drivers, Mel Shaw, who was slated to drive in the TA4 class.

“On behalf of the Ruman Racing team and McNichols Company, our hearts and prayers go out to Deb (Mel’s wife) and their family during this unimaginable time. It was very difficult and emotional to get in the car and race after that, but we all know Mel would have wanted us too. He will be missed in the TA paddock that’s for sure,” commented Ruman.

Ruman remains third in the Championship points standings following the results this weekend. Ernie Francis, Jr. is in first with 166 points, followed by Vincent Allegretta – 135, and Amy Ruman – 112.

Ruman Shooting for Celebration and Fireworks at Brainerd Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic in Trans Am Round 6

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman and team are shooting for turnaround as they approach mid-season race of the 2017 Trans Am Championship presented by Pirelli. The teams are heading way up north to Brainerd International Raceway (BIR), MN for Round 6 – the Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic.

Ruman in her No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette has had a very challenging season thus far to say the least, but remains third in the points standings after her disappointing 10th place finish at Indianapolis a few short weeks ago.

“Each race I keep thinking it’s going to turn around, so I am confident that this is the weekend for us. We have had some success here at Brainerd in the past and I am optimistic that I can find my way back to the podium on Sunday,” said Ruman. “In our past two Championships we were much more consistent then we have been this year, so our strategy has to shift now to gaining crucial points and get back to winning,” added the defending two-time TA Champion.

“We must also remember that this weekend is about our Country and not just racing as we celebrate the 4th of July weekend at Brainerd. On behalf of the Ruman Racing/McNichols Co. team I would like to thank our troops, service men and women, and all the veterans that have sacrificed their lives for us and our freedoms! Without them none of this would be possible,” stated Ruman.

Drivers will run on the BIR 2.5-mile road course and both races will be 40-laps (100-mi). Trans Am is expecting 30-entries for the weekend, with Ruman’s TA class at 9 cars. The holiday weekend will start off with a promoter test day on Friday, June 30th.  The two practice sessions and qualifying will take place on Saturday, July 1st. The TA2 race will take green at 11:00a.m. followed by TA/3/4 race at 2:30p.m. CDT.

Disappointment for Amy Ruman at the Brickyard after Qualifying 3rd

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After looking for turnaround in what has proved to be a difficult season for the Ruman Racing team, Amy Ruman finished tenth in the TA class at the Indianapolis Trans Am race on Saturday.

In a hot and steamy weekend at IMS, Ruman qualified the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette in third position, behind Ernie Francis Jr. and Vinnie Allegretta. In the opening laps, Ruman and Pintaric battled for third and fourth swapping positions a few times. While in the lead pack and trying to negotiate heavy lapped traffic, Ruman and a TA4 car had an altercation sending both cars off track. At that point, Ruman had a lot of ground to make up to rejoin the lead pack and proceeded to make her way back up.

Unfortunately, mid-race, after passing a pack of TA3/4 cars going to turn one, a few of them came together sending a Porsche flying through the breaking zone right into the rear of Ruman’s Corvette. The No.23 sustained heavy damage to the rear of the car and forced her to pit lane for repairs. The stop ultimately put Ruman four laps down, although she was able to continue and took the checker finishing in tenth place.

“While I’m once again extremely disappointed in the finish of our race, I can’t say enough about what a great race weekend it was with Trans Am, SVRA, and the Legends of Indy racing. The showcase between the cool historic Trans Am cars and the newer machinery we are driving, all really put on one heck of a show. It was an amazing crowd, beautiful weather, and a really impressive race weekend production. I can’t wait to come back to the Brickyard and try my hand at winning here once again,” explained Ruman. “My crew gave it their all once again for me and I can’t thank them enough. This season has been a tough one so far, but they keep digging and so will I.”

Ruman remains third in the Championship points standings following the results this weekend. Ernie Francis, Jr. is in first with 138 points, followed by Vincent Allegretta – 103, and Amy Ruman – 90. Points thus far are based on four out of the five races, with competitors dropping the worst finish out of the first five races (see rule 11.2.1 for full explanation). *Points subject to change, results were still provisional at time of release.

Ruman and Trans Am Debut at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Round 5

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After a frustrating weekend at the Detroit Grand Prix a few short weeks ago, Ruman and the team are poised to rebound this weekend in Round 5 of the Trans Am Series Championship Presented by Pirelli. This will be the first time the Trans Am Series and Amy Ruman will be racing at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) also coined the Brickyard, home of the famous Indianapolis 500.

The defending two-time TA Champion is looking to add another iconic track like Indy to her win column, alongside Daytona, Sebring, Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen, and many more. After suffering several mechanical issues at Detroit, the team has meticulously gone through the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette, in hopes of putting all those mechanical troubles behind them for the rest of the season.

The Trans Am Speedway Showdown (TA/3/4 race) and the Indianapolis Muscle Car Challenge (TA2 race) will run alongside the SVRA sanctioned Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational. Drivers will run on the IMS 2.439-mile Grand Prix road course using part of the oval and part of the road course and both races will be 42-laps (102.06-mi). Trans Am is expecting 65-entries for the weekend, with Ruman’s TA class at 14 cars.

“I can’t believe we are finally racing at Indy, what a dream come true. The history at the track is like none other, and I am so blessed to have this opportunity! Hopefully I can turn our luck around and will be kissing the bricks at the start/finish line at the conclusion of the race Saturday afternoon,” commented Ruman.

Detroit Debacle for Ruman in 3-Dimensional Motor City 100

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman and team struggled through Round 4 of the Trans Am Series Championship Presented by Pirelli at the 3-Dimensional Motor City 100 race in Detroit this past weekend. It seemed the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette was plagued with mechanical issues from the start of Friday morning’s practice. Despite being second fastest in the first practice session, the team found itself with problems after coming back to the paddock.

A clutch and drivetrain issue caused the team to pull the motor before practice 2 started and got it re-assembled just prior to the start of the session. Once on track, however, the car was still having issues forcing Ruman to park it. Due to the tight schedule between sessions, the crew was unable to make the necessary repairs before Friday afternoon qualifying, so Ruman missed the session.

Ruman started the race from the rear of the field and quickly moved up some positions all while battling third through fifth, but ultimately retired from the race early after burning up two spark plug wires that had wedged themselves against the headers.

“Unofficially, I don’t think we have ever missed a qualifying session in all of the years we have been racing…maybe one at the most,” mentioned Ruman. “It was really unexpected to have such a poor outing this weekend, especially after grabbing a second place at Road Atlanta last round. When we pitted during the full course caution, I was hoping Dave (Ruman’s crew chief) could make a quick fix, but we just didn’t have enough time to inspect and find the problem without going a lap down. I re-entered the race but the problem got worse so I decided to come in. We will put this one behind us and off to Indy we go!”

Ruman slid to third in the Championship points standings following the results this weekend. Ernie Francis, Jr. remains in first with 119 points, followed by Vincent Allegretta – 91, Amy Ruman – 89, Tomy Drissi – 78, and Simon Gregg – 77. *Subject to change, results were still provisional at time of release.
