Solid 4th Place Finish for Ruman at Road America Trans Am

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Ruman and the team rounded out the busy month of competition at the iconic Road America, WI, circuit this past weekend, where the Series completed Round 7 on the road to the 2018 Trans Am Championship Presented by Pirelli.

The team was looking for a comeback after the rough outcome at Mid-Ohio, and Ruman proved that with a solid 4th place finish in Saturday’s race. With essentially no clean laps during the qualifying session on Friday, Ruman qualified the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette 7th on the grid in a crowded field.

After three years of rain racing at Road America, mother nature finally stayed dry for the 850hp beasts. The race heated up quickly – and Ruman was entrenched with race long battles which included awesome side-by-side competition with fellow racers Greg Pickett, Tomy Drissi, and Dave Ruehlow. Ruman ran comfortably in sixth and seventh positions, and had some great late race passes to secure a fourth place finish.

“I am pretty pleased with our outcome here at Road America. It’s the best finish we have had here in a long time. I was really running strong at the end of the race but ran out of laps to be able to completely close the gap with Cliff (Ebben). I was trying hard to get our McNichols Corvette back atop the podium, and we came close today. Shout out to all of the Road America fans that came out for the race, the huge crowd was unreal!” exclaimed Ruman.

The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli heads to Watkins Glen International next, September 7th through 9th. With four rounds remaining in the season, Ernie Francis, Jr. leads the TA Championship with 204 points, followed by Chris Dyson in second – 167, Lawrence Loshak sits third – 162, David Pintaric in forth – 157, and Amy Ruman in fifth with – 141 points.

Next Stop, Road America for Ruman and Trans Am – Mid-Ohio Race Ended Way too Early

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After the tough round for Ruman and the team at Mid-Ohio just over a week ago, the busy month of August continues to Road America, WI, this weekend for the Trans Am Series Championship Presented by Pirelli.

The hometown race at Mid-Ohio on August 11th did not go according to plan. The team struggled to find proper handling and speed throughout the weekend, which resulted in an 11th place qualifying slot for the start of the race. Ruman was determined to move up quickly after a decent start for the race. After advancing to sixth position during the opening laps, she suffered a mechanical failure that ended her race very early on lap 10. “What can I say, another huge disappointment in front of our hometown crowd again. For some reason we just haven’t yet had the best luck here at Mid-Ohio lately; it’s a real shame. Thank you to everyone for coming out and supporting us – it really does mean the world to us!” stated Ruman.

The Series is once again running in conjunction with the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the legendary road racing circuit. The No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette is ready to go and Ruman is eager to face the fast and challenging 14-turn, 4.048 mile track – a track that the two time Champion has yet to win at in her Trans Am career. The past few years have had rainy weather for the Trans Am race, but this could be the year for good weather and sunny skies.

57 competitors are entered for the event, with 19 running in Ruman’s TA class. The weekend will start off with a promoter test day and official practice 1 on Thursday August 23rd. Practice 2 and qualifying will take place on Friday. Ruman Grabs 4th and CoolShirt Cool Move of the Race at Pitt – Team Heads to Mid-Ohio for Home Race

Munroe Falls, Ohio – It was hot and steamy for the Trans Am Series drivers and crews at the debut of the Keystone Speedfest weekend at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex last weekend. Ruman had some great in-race battles, eventually grabbing a solid 4th place finish int the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette.

Temperatures and humidity were sky high over the weekend which made for slick track conditions and hot race cars. During Saturday’s qualifying run, Ruman was running near the front and then got bumped down to 6th in the late stages of qualifying. The field saw the green flag at 2:00pm on Sunday, and Ruman had a great start moving up a few spots in the first turn. Into the next few turns, there were some exchanges as she battled alongside the No. 03 of McAleese and had a race long bout with the No. 57 of Pintaric. Ruman eventually passed the No. 57 in the last turn, on the last lap of the race, beating him back to the line to finish in fourth. That pass earned Ruman the Trans Am COOLSHIRT Systems Cool Move of the Race, which was presented to her during the podium festivities.

“That was a fun one, but super-hot! Unfortunately, we didn’t have the car under us to stick with the leaders today, but I had some great racing with some great competitors. David (Pintaric) and I duked it out all the way down to the last turn of the last lap, ending with a drag race to the line! This track was crazy busy out there, lots of hard braking, turns, shifts…we all had our hands full! It was a solid finish and I gained some valuable points today and moved into fifth in point chase, now on to my home track of Mid-Ohio!” exclaimed Ruman.

The Series is running back-to-back weekends and are now staged and ready to compete at popular Mid-Ohio event this weekend. Round 6 of the 2018 Trans Am Championship presented by Pirelli will be running in conjunction with the NASCAR Xfinity Series once again. Trans Am will feature two races, The First Energy Trans Am 100 and the First Energy Muscle Car Challenge. 47 competitors are entered for the weekend, and both races will be 101.96-miles, 45 laps around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile legendary course in Lexington, Ohio.

Ruman has faced many challenges and adversity at her “home track” Mid-Ohio over the years, this year she is hopeful and confident for a top spot on the podium. “Things haven’t always gone our way here, that’s for sure. But I’m hopeful this year will be different. We have been running up front consistently the past three races, so I’m ride and use that momentum going into this race. We are determined to be on top here at home in front of all our fans and McNichols partners this year!” stated Ruman.

Ruman Heading to Pitt Race for Trans Am’s Debut at Keystone Speedfest

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After nearly a two-month mid-summer break in the Trans Am Series schedule, some of the classes will be back in action at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex (Pitt Race) this weekend. The Trans Am Series Championship Presented by Pirelli will be making its debut at the track with the TA/3/4 classes bringing an action-packed full racing weekend for race fans.

Amy Ruman and the team are eager to get back to work where they left off – two podium finishes in the last two rounds at Indy (2nd) and Homestead (3rd). Ruman has not raced on the expanded Pitt track layout, so the 2.78-mile, 19 turn “full track” course will be unfamiliar to her and most of the competitors, though some have competed in the SCCA Major events there.

“I can’t wait to finally get back in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette this weekend! This should be an interesting event, the track is challenging and narrow, so we may not have a lot of passing zones. I haven’t raced here in 12 years or so, and the track is expanded and quite different. It’s only about an hour from my house in neighboring Ohio so I think we will have a crowd here cheering us on! Another advantage of the weekend is that the TA class will have its own standalone race – the first time since 2010, so it’s bound to be a great show for the fans!”

The series will be running in conjunction with Formula Promotion’s F1600, F2000, Atlantic Championship series, and the F3 US Championship and the debuting F4 Americas Championship. The Keystone Speedfest will be a jam-packed weekend featuring nine races.

Ruman’s TA class will host 11 entries, with 20 competitors entered for this weekend’s races across the TA/3/4 classes. The TA2 class will rejoin the group at Mid-Ohio the following weekend. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Friday and Saturday. The TA3/4 race will take place on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 11:15 am EST and the TA feature race will be at 2:00pm EST – both races are 100.8-mile, 36-laps. Champagne Showers and a 2nd Place for Ruman at the Berryman Brickyard at Indy

Munroe Falls, Ohio – It was a hot and steamy weekend as the Trans Am Series Championship Presented by Pirelli heated up the Brickyard! Two-time TA Champion Ruman was confident heading into the Indy weekend, and her confidence paid off with a come-back second place finish at the end of the day.

Hot and humid weather conditions made for a tough weekend for the teams at the racing capital of the world. Ruman and the team battled a slick track and put together a 7th placed qualifying run on Saturday. The team decided to make some pre-race setup changes hoping to make the race go a little smoother – unfortunately they went a little too far.

The late day 3:15pm race start saw 95º F air temps, 148º F track surface temps, and 150º F plus cockpit temps making for an additionally challenging race for the 30 drivers. Ruman had a good start and moved up a few spots at the start, but quickly started dropping positions as she immediately had handling issues. She held on to a very loose car for the beginning laps of the race, but after discussion with the crew elected to pit and make some set-up adjustments during the second caution of the race. The crew was able to make the changes and get her back out to re-join the field without going a lap down, however she dropped to dead last overall (11th in TA class). Ruman went on a mission and worked her way back up through the field eventually taking the checkered flag in 2nd place!

“We weren’t in the groove in the beginning,” said Ruman.  “Our setup was terrible, and we decided to pit under caution and make adjustments.  It was the right move, we dropped our time by three or so seconds.  We drove from last to second; and I couldn’t be happier with this McNichols Co. 23 Corvette, hats off to the crew and my dad.  A second at Indy is pretty cool, a first would have been better, but on a day like today I’ll take it!”

A 60-minute highlight show of the weekend will broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network, Sunday, July 1st at 2:00pm ET. Replays of both race’s live streams can be also viewed on Motor Trend On Demand.
