Second Half of the Trans Am Season Resumes at the Brickyard – Ruman Set for Indianapolis Motor Speedway Showdown

Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli will resume this weekend kicking off the second half of the season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In the Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park, CT, Round 4 of the Championship where Ruman garnered a seventh-place finish. The TA class had a long two-month summer break with this weekend’s Indy race moving from June to August on the 2019 schedule.

For the third time, the Series returns to the racing capital of the world, Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS), home of the Indianapolis 500. Trans Am will run in conjunction with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) and their popular Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational featuring the “Indy Legends” Pro-Am charity race.

Taking home a second place finish in 2018 at IMS, two-time TA Champion Ruman is determined to see the podium again this weekend in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette. The weather forecast is looking sunny and warm, which will make a great weekend for spectating. Drivers will run on the IMS 2.439-mile Grand Prix road course using part of the oval and part of the road course.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend’s race at Indy. It feels weird we haven’t been racing in so long, its like the start of a whole new season. This event it so iconic with the combo of the Trans Am races and the Indy Legends race, it really makes a spectacular show for the fans! Winning at the Brickyard would be so thrilling, I know we will be trying everything in our power to bring home a win,” stated Ruman.

There are 44 competitors entered across the four Trans Am classes, with 11 entered in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Thursday thru Saturday. The TA/SGT/GT race will take place on Saturday at 2:35pm ET followed by the TA2 race Powered by AEM on Sunday at 2:45pm ET – both races will be 42-laps (102.06 mi). In the 2019 chase for the Trigon Trophy heading into Round 5 at IMS, Chris Dyson leads the TA class championship with 104 points, Lawrence Loshak is in second with – 100, Ernie Francis Jr. third – 96, Tomy Drissi. in fourth – 94, and Amy Ruman in fifth place – 86 points.

Ruman Off to Trans Am Series Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park, CT

Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli is back in action this weekend at the traditional Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park, CT, Round 4 of the Championship lineup. After an absence on the TA schedule the last four years, teams will be returning to run on the famous and historic “bullring” track.

This will be Ruman’s fifth appearance in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette at the New England circuit and she will be looking to best her two 3rd place finishes in 2012 and 2015. The rapid, short 1.5-mile, seven-turn natural terrain road course has one of the highest average-speed laps of the season. A track that rewards momentum through the iconic circuit, it features corners with names like “Big Bend,” “The Uphill,” “West Bend,” and the final turn called the “Downhill,” a corner that launches the field down the front stretch as lap times click off in less than one minute!

“Mother Nature has a habit of making Lime Rock a wet race weekend, so we are hoping that she decides to keep it nice and dry for us. I’m excited to return here—this track is super challenging because it’s so short and fast. You must be precise here and cannot afford to make any mistakes, otherwise it can bite you quickly. The uphill is always interesting, our cars catch a lot of air there and it can be exhilarating that’s for sure! I know the fans are happy we are back; the festivities and spectating here is awesome!” exclaimed Ruman.

Ruman and team are entrenched in a thrilling Trans Am battle for the Championship with only four points separating second place from fifth. In the 2019 chase for the Trigon Trophy, Lawrence Loshak leads the TA class championship with 100 points, Tomy Drissi in second with – 71, Chris Dyson third – 69, Ernie Francis Jr. in fourth – 67, and Amy Ruman in fifth place – 67 points.

Running in conjunction with SVRA, there will be an awesome showcase of modern and classic cars with an array of racing and festivities for the fans.  There are 36 competitors entered for this weekend’s races across the four Trans Am classes, with 10 entered in Ruman’s TA class. Cars will hit the track Friday and Saturday for testing, practice, and qualifying. The TA2 race Powered by AEM will be held at 12:55pmET on Saturday. The remaining teams will then take a day off as the track continues to uphold its decades-long agreement with the community not to stage races on Sunday. Top 5 for Ruman at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After a rough start to the Trans Am SpeedFest weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Monterey, California, the Ruman Racing team headed back home to Ohio with a 5th place finish.

It was a busy two days in California for the Trans Am teams, packing in test, practice, and qualifying sessions on Friday followed by the race on Saturday. Amy and the team struggled with ignition problems in the test and practice sessions giving her limited laps and time on the track, most laps not at full speed. The team worked diligently on the problem between sessions and were confident they found and fixed the issues prior to qualifying. The No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette seemed to be back up to speed in qualifying and Ruman captured the 7th slot on the starting grid.

It was a gorgeous cool, sunny California day for the 12:50pm PT start of Round 3 of the Championship presented by Pirelli. Ruman moved up a few positions in the early part of the race, running consistently in 4th place. Simon Gregg and Ruman battled for most of the second half of the race with Ruman narrowly holding him off. On the last lap, traffic came into play and Gregg got a jump on Ruman, passing her for 4th position and Ruman crossed the stripe in 5th place.

“It was a disappointing start to the weekend that’s for sure. We had some unexpected electrical gremlins that made it tough for me to really nail down setup and to learn the track quickly. Luckily the guys worked them out by qualifying and I just tried to learn as much as possible while I was out there. Simon (Gregg) and I had a great race, and unfortunately, I got caught up and Simon got a run on me on the last lap and took 4th. Those two points I lost are critical right now for the Championship, but it’s still early in the season and a lot can happen. We had a great time out here, and the fans were amazing,” exclaimed Ruman.

Ruman Heads to Cali for TA Round 3 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

Munroe Falls, Ohio – For the first time in fifteen years, the Trans Am Series will be heading back to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Monterey, California for Round 3 of the Championship Presented by Pirelli and the SpeedFest tour. The Ruman Racing team has not run at Laguna Seca since Amy’s father Bob ran there in 2001 Trans Am race. Amy has only run Laguna once previously in the Women’s Global GT Series in 1999.

WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is an 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course, known for its unique section of the course called the corkscrew – turns 8 and 8A – a hard-left, hard-right combination. The corkscrew drops 59 feet between the entrance of Turn 8 to the exit of Turn 8A—the equivalent of a 5½ story drop—in only 450 feet of track length. From Turn 8 to Turn 9, the elevation falls 109 feet, or just over 10 stories.

“Although California is a far trek for us from Ohio, I am excited to head out to the West coast and run the iconic Laguna Seca track. I can’t wait to run the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette down through the famous corkscrew; it’s going to be a blast! The Championship battle is heating up and I’m looking forward to a good result here this weekend,” commented Ruman. “Some of the other drivers will have an advantage over us as they have been running in other series’ and cars out here over the years, but hopefully we will get up to speed quickly. This needs to be a big points weekend for us, it’s a tight race right now!”

After a third-place podium finish at Road Atlanta last month, the team is looking to carry that momentum into this weekend. The long haul to the West coast will see a condensed schedule, which will make it even more challenging for the drivers to come up to speed after such a long hiatus from the track over the years.

There are 43 competitors entered for this weekend’s races across the four classes, with 11 entered in the TA class. The busy weekend will start off with a promoter test session on Friday May 3rd, followed by official TA practice, and then late day qualifying. Saturday May 4, 2019 will feature the TA/SGT/GT race at 12:50pm PT. The TA2 race Powered by AEM will run on Sunday at 1:10pm, both at 45-laps – all times listed are PT. Ruman Scores Trans Am Podium at Road Atlanta in Wild Weather Race

Munroe Falls, Ohio – In the chase for the 2019 Trans Am Series Championship Presented by Pirelli title, Amy Ruman is right in the mix after Round 2 at Road Atlanta this weekend. Ruman had her sights set on a podium finish in Braselton, GA – and she achieved just that capturing a third-place finish.

The TA class had an extremely tight qualifying session on Saturday afternoon and Ruman started in fifth for the Sunday morning race in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette. After several days of beautiful Georgia weather, Sunday took a turn for the worse, with wet track conditions from morning rain and temperatures at 45 degrees for the start of the race. Weather looked to improve throughout the race, so teams gambled on starting with slick tires on a wet track, which made for a treacherous first half of the race. The 850hp Trans Am cars took the green flag in single file formation, all getting through turn one unscathed.

Ruman’s strategy was to not make any early mistakes in the wet conditions, banking on a drying track throughout the race. Conditions did improve as the laps clicked off, allowing the drivers to pick up the pace by the halfway point. Chris Dyson and Ruman raced closely in 3rd and 4th, until some late race traffic caught Ruman, creating some distance between them. With two laps to go, it looked like Ruman would finish in fourth-place when Dyson encountered a problem. Ruman advanced to take home third-place hardware.

“I’m pretty pleased with our result today,” said Ruman. “We were a little far back, but at least we captured a third. Our game plan was not to make any mistakes at the beginning, because we knew it was going to dry out at the end, and hopefully, we would be there. I wish it could have been sunny so fans could see what everybody had, but we’ll take a solid third today for good points. I love Road Atlanta. I’ve had success here, three wins and lots of podiums. This track is busy but it’s challenging, and if you have a good car, it can be really fast. But if you have a bad car, it can be treacherous.”
