Ruman Finishes 4th Overall in 2020 TA Trans Am Championship After Scoring 5th and 7th Place Finishes at Road Atlanta Double

Munroe Falls, Ohio – The wild and crazy 2020 Trans Am Championship presented by Pirelli wrapped up this past weekend at Road Atlanta, GA. The season finale shifted up due to the cancelation of the December Laguna Seca, CA, event due to the state’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Ruman and team had a busy weekend running the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette in two separate races last weekend to cap off the season. After qualifying in sixth place for both races, Ruman took home a fifth-place finish in race one, followed by a seventh-place finish in race two.

“I was really confident we would end the season here on a bit of a higher note, but unfortunately we just didn’t have the speed this weekend. I was third in the points heading into race two, but then Dyson won and that gave him the points advantage over me to take over third. After a chaotic season with the pandemic and some up and down finishes for us, I guess fourth place is not too bad,” commented Ruman.

After the final two rounds of the 2020 Trans Am Championship Presented by Pirelli, Ernie Francis Jr. won the TA class with 253 points, followed by Tomy Drissi in second – 225, Chris Dyson in third – 202, Amy Ruman in fourth – 191, and Simon Gregg in fifth – 190 points.

Ruman Heads to Atlanta Trans Am Season Finale After Scoring 5th at COTA

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Ruman and the team are heading south to Atlanta after a quick turnaround from the race at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) last week. Changes to the 2020 schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic have shifted the season finale to Road Atlanta this weekend after the Series was forced to cancel the re-scheduled May Laguna Seca event which was now planned for December 6^th.

Ruman heads to the season finale fourth in the Championship points race after a disappointing race at COTA. Ruman qualified the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette fifth on the grid for the start of the race. Ruman had a great start moving up a few spots in the first turn, but then got tagged from behind and spun in turn 2. She was able to continue but fell way back in the field, eventually moving back up to finish in fifth.

“I was super disappointed I got spun after I had another great start. We were racing closely and both vying for that slot. Unfortunately, we lost a chance at gaining some valuable points to try and move up in the Championship race,” expressed Ruman.

The Road Atlanta event this weekend, originally scheduled in March, will go off as another double race event weekend for teams and competitors. Ruman has had much success at the iconic track, scoring three wins here along with her first career Trans Am win in 2011 and multiple podiums throughout the years. “I’m excited we are able to finish off this crazy 2020 season at Road Atlanta this weekend, it’s an awesome track. With challenges like the downhill esses and the downhill on the front straight and can really make for an exciting race for drivers and fans. I am pleased we are allowed to have spectators at the event this weekend. I’m focused on closing out the season with two solid finishes – by that I mean wins,” commented Ruman.

As part of the SpeedTour, the Trans Am Series is running in conjunction with Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) Road Atlanta Grand Prix event at the iconic 12-turn, 2.54-mile circuit. 55 competitors are entered across all classes for the event, with 12 running in Ruman’s TA class. The Saturday races will feature the normal class splits, TA/XGT/SGT/GT and TA2 in separate races. Sunday’s race will feature all classes running in the same race. Spectators will be allow to attend the event, but fans at home will also be able to tune into LIVE STREAMING of both races on the Trans Am by Pirelli app.

Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Thursday through Sunday. Saturday, November 21st, the TA/XGT/SGT/GT feature race is slated for 10:45am ET followed by the TA2® race Powered by AEM at 3:20pm ET, both races are 40-laps (101.6-mi). Final Swing for Ruman in 2020 Trans Am Season Begins at COTA

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After another month off from Trans Am racing action, the Series will begin their final swing of the 2020 Championship Presented by Pirelli at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Texas. COTA is the first event in the final three events of the season, with Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca both hosting double headers.

Heading into COTA, Ruman sits in fifth place in the Championship points standings after capturing third and fourth place finishes in the double event at VIRgina International Raceway in September.

Trans Am will be running in conjunction with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) U.S. Vintage Championship as part of the SpeedTour. The Series is making its sixth consecutive appearance at the signature purpose-built Formula 1 track. Spectators can attend the event this weekend and rest assured they are in for a full weekend of super-sized Texas fun and entertainment. The 3.4-mile world-class track is made up of 20 turns, dramatic elevation changes, including the 133-foot climb up to an extremely tight turn 1. Can’t make it to the track? Don’t worry – fans can tune into LIVE STREAMING of both races on the Trans Am by Pirelli app.

“I can’t wait to finally get back in the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette; this season has been a wild one with lots of hiatus’. I feel like we are starting the third season of the year,” laughed Ruman. “Hopefully, we can find our rhythm again quickly, snag a win, and move up in the points race. COTA is a super technical track and is a challenging one for drivers. I’ve won here before and have had several podium finishes; it should be a great race!”

54 competitors are entered across all classes for the event with 9 running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Thursday through Sunday. The TA2® race Powered by AEM will be Sunday, November 8^th at 11:00am, and the TA/SGT/GT will take place at 1:05pm, both races are 102.81-miles, 30-laps – all times listed are CDT. Third and Fourth Place Finishes for Ruman at Trans Am VIR Double

Munroe Falls, Ohio – It was an eventful, action packed weekend for the Ruman Racing team as they participated in a double race weekend at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) in Danville, VA. The Trans Am Series management elected to make the VIR event a double header, featuring two races for all classes to make up for the missed event at Watkins Glen.

Teams battled rain the first two days of the event, leading to a rain-soaked qualifier on Friday evening. Ruman was just starting to find her groove when a flat tire led to a bout into the tire wall. She was able to continue to pit lane, but the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette sustained some cosmetic damage to the right side of the car, leaving her in eighth position for the first race. Ruman’s awesome crew put the slightly banged up No. 23 back together for the races. Drier conditions prevailed for the Saturday morning feature race, where Ruman had her work cut out for her. She moved her way through the pack and landed a fourth-place finish.

Qualifying for the second race was determined by the fastest times in race one, so Ruman started fourth on the grid. Wasting no time at all when the green flag waved, Ruman put the moves on the front runners going three-wide into turn one passing Drissi and Dyson to move into second place. Tight battles and position swaps would continue throughout the race with (Chris) Dyson, Ruman, (Tomy) Drissi, and (Paul) Menard. Ultimately, Ruman finished on the podium in third place.

Ruman’s post-race two comments – “We didn’t have the best start to the weekend, but it feels great to get that last step of the podium especially after a tough-fought race,” Ruman said. “Toward the end, our rear tires were giving out and I didn’t have enough to keep pace. We kind-of lucked into third at the end, but that’s just how racing goes. I had a great start and hoped to keep that position, but after I slid back a little, I continued to fight. We had a good third place car and I am happy with a podium today.” Ruman dedicated her third-place finish to her parents, who were in attendance celebrating their 52^nd wedding anniversary on September 28^th.

The Series was scheduled to travel to Lime Rock Park Oct. 16-18, but Covid-19 restrictions in the state have now forced the event to be cancelled. Trans Am management has elected once again to now make the November 20-22 Road Atlanta event a double header, featuring two races for all classes. The December 4-6 Laguna Seca event will also become a double to make up for the Indianapolis race that was never rescheduled from June. First, the Series will travel to the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in Austin, TX for Round 7 November 6-8, 2020.

Ruman Back to Trans Am Action at VIRginia International Raceway This Weekend

Munroe Falls, Ohio – It’s been another long hiatus between events for the Trans Am Series and teams and they are finally heading back to the track this weekend after nearly a two month break since the last race at Road America in early August.

Ruman and the team are looking for redemption this weekend at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) in Danville, VA. Shockingly, a transmission failure was found in the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette just prior to the race at Road America. Ruman was able to get a race start from pit lane, but the last-minute failure prevented her from competing in the race, a devastating blow to her battle in the 2020 Championship Presented by Pirelli dropping her from third in points to fifth.

The Series was scheduled to travel to Watkins Glen International Raceway September 11-13, but Covid-19 restrictions in the state of New York forced the event to be cancelled. Trans Am management elected to make the VIR event a double header, featuring two races for all classes.

The Trans Am Series is running in conjunction with SVRA’s Heacock Classic Gold Cup event. Drivers will take on the exciting 18 turn, 3.27-mile track. 51 competitors are entered across all classes for the event, with 13 running in Ruman’s TA class. The Saturday races will feature the normal class splits, TA/XGT/SGT/GT and TA2 in separate races. Sunday’s race will feature all classes running in the same race.

“We have really taken advantage of the break in the schedule, the crew has gone through the car, made some changes, and we were able to get some testing in. The Road America race was a huge disappointment for us, our fans, and our sponsors, it killed me not to race after a strong fourth place showing in qualifying,” commented Ruman. “This weekend is going to be busy and challenging, but we are looking to have two consistent top finishes and gain some valuable points. Regrettably, there will be no spectators allowed to attend the event.
