Ruman Heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway for Trans Am Round 2

Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Championship Presented by Pirelli is heading to Charlotte Motor Speedway for Round 2 of the 2022 schedule this weekend. After qualifying the No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette fifth on the grid at the Sebring opener, Ruman finished the race in fifth place after several great battles with Thwaits and Drissi throughout the race just a few short weeks ago.

After a 22-year hiatus, two-time Trans Am Champion Amy Ruman returns to the iconic NASCAR speedway notably coined as “America’s Home for Racing”. The last and only time the Ruman team raced at Charlotte was in 2000. Bob Ruman raced in the Trans Am Series event and Amy and sister Niki raced the same weekend in the Women’s Global GT Series support race.

The speedway hosts two premier NASCAR events each year – the Coca-Cola 600 and the Bank of America ROVAL™ 400. This weekend Trans Am drivers will compete on the Roval configuration, a 2.25-mile track layout merging much of the 1.5-mile NASCAR oval with an infield road course. The unique configuration is narrow, tight, and challenging with surrounding walls and limited passing zones.

“I’m looking forward to running again at Charlotte. It’s been a long time since we have raced in Charlotte, 22 years to be exact. The track configuration is different than when we ran here last, but I should be able to get up to speed quickly. Our focus this season is consistency, and optimistically we should pick up some solid podium points here this weekend,” remarked Ruman.

Forty-two competitors are entered across all classes, with eight running in Ruman’s TA class. Trans Am is running in conjunction with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) as part of the 2022 SpeedTour. Testing, practices, qualifying, and races will take place Thursday through Sunday. The Trans Am TA2® race will be Saturday, March 19th at 1:00pm followed by the TA/XGT/SGT/GT feature race on Sunday at 12:40pm ET, both races are 101.25-miles, 45-laps. Heading into Round 2, Chris Dyson leads the TA National class championship with 35 points, followed by Ken Thwaits in second – 25, Amy Ruman in third – 21, Tomy Drissi in fourth – 20, and Paul Menard sits in fifth – with 19 points.

2022 Trans Am Season Kicks off at the Sebring SpeedTour Saturday – Ruman and McNichols Co. Join Forces Again, Celebrating 20 years of Partnership

Munroe Falls, Ohio – The short off-season has flown by as usual, and the 2022 Trans Am Championship Presented by Pirelli season is back in action this weekend February 24th-27th at Sebring International Raceway. Two-time Trans Am Champion Amy Ruman will return for another full season with the series and shoot for a third Championship title.

Amy Ruman concluded the 2021 season placing fifth overall in the TA class Championship points standings in the chase for the Trigon trophy. She was set to run the full 11-race Trans Am schedule last year but was forced to miss VIR after contracting Covid-19. Ruman captured one podium finish during the season at Watkins Glen (3rd) as well as scoring four top five finishes during the year. She closed out the year in November at COTA for the season finale but encountered a power steering issue that ended her race early.

The crew has been working diligently on the No. 23 Corvette making sure everything is prepared and ready to go for Ruman to get back in action. “Competition is ramping up again this year and some big names are rumored to be joining the TA class. Looks like everyone wants to get in on some TA action! I’m looking forward to having a strong year with consistent top finishes, it’s time to shift the momentum our way again,” remarked Ruman.

New for the 2022 season, Pirelli has introduced a 18” Pirelli P zero tire in lieu of the 16” they have been running on for years. The team was able to do some testing on the new tire earlier this month at Sebring, and here is what Ruman had to say; “It was crucial that we got some laps in on the new tires before the season gets underway and Sebring was the ideal place to get it done. We have a ton of data and miles there, so it’s very useful for comparisons and set up factors. There seem to be significant improvements in the new 18” 2022 Pirelli’s over the 16” tires that we have been running on. The smaller sidewall has better ride control and new compound has increased the overall grip which has made the steering and input more responsive, faster through the corners, and enhanced the overall comfort. I’m also looking forward to seeing increased performance throughout a race. It should be an interesting season!”

A huge field is expected for the opening round, with sixty-eight competitors entered across all classes at the 3.7-mile road course, with thirteen running in Ruman’s TA class. Trans Am is running in conjunction with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) as part of the 2022 SpeedTour. Testing, practices, qualifying, and races will take place Thursday through Sunday. The Trans Am TA/XGT/SGT/GT feature race will be Saturday, February 26th at 1:00pm followed by the TA2® race on Sunday at 1:00pm ET, both races are 100.98-miles, 27-laps. Ruman Returns for Trans Am Season Finale at COTA

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman will return to racing this weekend for the final round of the 2021 Championship Presented by Pirelli at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Texas. Heading into COTA, Ruman dropped to fifth place in the Championship points standings after missing Round 10 at VIRgina International Raceway in September after testing positive with breakthrough Covid-19.

This is the last stop on the 2021 SpeedTour, Trans Am’s seventh consecutive appearance at the signature purpose-built Formula 1 track. Running in conjunction with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), fans will be welcomed with a weekend full of Texas fun and entertainment. The 3.4-mile world-class track is made up of 20 turns and dramatic elevation changes, including the 133-foot climb up to an extremely tight turn 1.

“I am really happy to get back in the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette at COTA this weekend. Missing the VIR race was a huge disappointment for us. Unfortunately, the circumstances were out of my control, but I’m happy to report I’m feeling great and I’m ready to race!” stated Ruman. “I’m looking forward to ending the season on a high note. I’ve had much success at COTA with a win and several podium finishes. Hopefully, we can find our rhythm again quickly and settle in. It should be a great race!”

Seventy-seven competitors are entered across all classes for the weekend, one of the largest fields ever, with twelve running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Friday through Sunday. Both races will be held on Sunday November 7th, with the TA2® race at 10:50am CT, followed by the TA/XGT/SGT/GT feature race at 1:50pm CT, each for 30-laps. Ruman Scores 3rd & 4th at Watkins Glen Double, Moves up to 4th in Championship – VIR on Deck for Trans Am Round 10

Munroe Falls, Ohio – A solid weekend showing for Amy Ruman and the team last weekend in Rounds 8 & 9 of the Trans Am by Pirelli SpeedTour at Watkins Glen International (WGI), NY. The weekend featured a double race format combining all classes together to run in both races.

With sunny skies and perfect racing temperatures prevailing all weekend, testing started out on the tough side for Ruman. Mechanical issues arose during the second session, consequentially missing the only official practice session Friday morning before evening qualifying. The crew worked on fixing the issue just in time to make the 5:35pm qualifying session.

With limited track time, Ruman qualified the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette in ninth place for race one Saturday afternoon. Race one started out with lots of action throughout the field, with Ruman making advances throughout the race. She ultimately took the checkered flag in fourth, but some post-race penalty assessments moved her up to third in the final results.

“We were really happy with our results today in race one after having some mechanical issues in testing and missing practice,” said Ruman. “The crew worked diligently to get the No. 23 back in action just in time for qualifying. I started P9 and kept my nose clean and took the checkered in fourth. There was some controversy upfront near the end of the race, and I was just informed that we moved into third place after some penalties were assessed. It’s not normally how I like to get onto the podium, but that’s racing, and we’ll take it,” remarked Ruman.

Qualifying for race two was set by fast lap times in race one, and Ruman would be positioned in sixth for the start of the race. Ruman had another great start moving her up to fifth place. Great battles continued throughout race two. Ruman made her way into third but could not hold off Guy Smith in the No. 21 Ford Mustang resulting in a fourth place finish. With two solid finishes, she moves up to forth in the championship points battle.

The Series continues to VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) in Danville, VA. Sept for Round 10 in the 2021 Championship. Trans Am is running in conjunction with SVRA’s Gold Cup event, part of the SpeedTour. Forty-eight competitors are entered across all classes for the weekend at the 18 turn, 3.27-mile renowned road course, with twelve running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Thursday through Sunday. Both races will be held on Sunday September 26th, the TA/XGT/SGT/GT at 11:05am ET, followed by the TA2® race feature race at 3:35pm ET, 31-laps. Ruman Back in Action for Trans Am Double Header at Watkins Glen

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After nearly a two-month break, the Trans Am by Pirelli SpeedTour heads to Watkins Glen International (WGI), NY. Teams were supposed to compete at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Bowmanville, ON over the past Labor Day weekend, but when that race was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions at the border, Watkins Glen became a double race feature for all classes.

In Round 7 at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) held in July, Ruman and in the team battled multiple drive shaft issues, missed qualifying and started in the back, yet managed to take home a 5th place finish.

The Series returns to WGI this weekend for its 33rd appearance at the historic road course for Round 8 on the TA schedule. In 2020, COVID-19 restrictions in the state of New York forced the event to be cancelled, so teams are excited to be back for the first time since 2019. Trans Am is running in conjunction with SVRA’s U.S. Vintage Grand Prix event, with many activities for fans to enjoy throughout the long weekend.

“Obviously I’m ecstatic to be back at the Glen, everyone knows it’s my favorite track on the schedule! It’s always a great weekend here with tons of cars and festivities for the fans. My crew took advantage of the time off and did a ton of prep on the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette, so we are ready to go for the weekend. I won the TA race here in 2016 and have had several podiums, so I’m hopeful we will have a good weekend, and we have two shots at it!” exclaimed Ruman.

Competitors will be running the 3.4-mile “long course” configuration which includes “the boot” section of the track. 41 competitors across all classes are entered for the event, with 11 running in Ruman’s premier TA class. Testing, practices, qualifying, and races will take place Wednesday through Sunday. The Saturday and Sunday races will run a combined class format. Feature race 1 will be Saturday, September 11th at 1:00pm EST, and Sunday’s feature race 2 will be at 11:20am EST.
