Munroe Falls, Ohio (29 August 2013) – Ruman Racing will be back in race action this weekend as the Trans Am Series heads north to Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota for Round 7 of the 2013 championship. Amy Ruman enters the 25th Annual Muscle Car Shootout event as the defending race winner in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette and will look to show her strength at the circuit with a return to the Trans Am podium on Sunday.
Ruman, who currently sits fourth in the Trans Am championship standings, holds a strong record of success at the 3.1-mile, 10-turn Minnesota road course.
In the last four Trans Am races at the track, Ruman has stood on the podium three times. After placing second and third in her Brainerd debut in 2011, Ruman returned last year to claim the top step of the podium in Race 2 as the track has played host for double headers the last two years.
It was a dominant victory, with Ruman pushing the No. 23 McNichols Corvette and leading 19 laps en route to the win. The result marked Ruman’s second victory of the season as well as her fifth of seven podiums last year which helped secure her runner-up position in the 2012 championship.
“I am looking forward to this weekend of racing at Brainerd! The fans are great and they love the Trans Am Series,” offered Ruman. “We’ve run really well here the past few years, and I’m hopeful to get us back on the podium.”
A newly resurfaced track awaits the 23-car field of Trans Am competitors which will have the teams searching for new setups as new tire strategies will be put into play. As the defending race winner, the experienced Ruman Racing team looks to maximize the weekend’s practice sessions and determine a race-winning set-up for the No. 23 machine.
“With the new track surface in play, I’m sure we will all have to make some changes in our setups. Maximizing track time will be key this weekend,” said Ruman. “We only have four more races this year in the Trans Am championship, so I’m aiming for some strong finishes. This Labor Day weekend here at Brainerd is a tradition, hopefully we can keep up our tradition of being quick there as well!”
The Labor Day race weekend opens with a promoter test day on Friday, August 30. Official practice will take place on Saturday, August 31 at 10:00 AM (CT) and at 1:45 PM (CT). Sunday will feature qualifying in the morning at 10:00 AM (CT) ahead of the 4:00 PM green flag for the 100-mile, 40-lap race.
