Watkins Glen, NY – It was truly an up and down weekend for Ruman Racing at the SCCA National at Watkins Glen International, NY.

Amy Ruman came on very strong in a deep GT-1 field of 12 cars, which included actor/racer Paul Newman, former GT-1 division champion Jack Busch, Trans-Am driver Simon Gregg, as well as Bill Thumel, among others. Ruman, in the #23 McNichols Corvette, dominated in the first qualifying session on Saturday morning, setting the time to beat at 1.52.601 in traffic, .092 seconds under the track record she set last year. In the second session on Saturday, SCCA officials broke out the GT-1 and GT-2 cars to qualify separately from the rest of the other classes in the very large group, but still, no one was able to beat the time Ruman set during the morning session. Unfortunately, Ruman had engine trouble on the very first lap of the second qualifying session and then again in Sunday’s pre-race warm-up. Ruman was unable to start in Sunday’s race, due to the engine problems. It was Ruman’s 5th pole position of the season and she was going for her 4th consecutive victory.

“We tried very hard to make the race, but it just wasn’t meant to be,” said a disappointed Ruman. “We broke two engines this weekend and just didn’t have a third bullet to put in the car. I know we would have been very strong in the race, but I was also looking forward to the great competition. The Glen is a favorite track of mine and I know we would have been part of a great show. We came off an easy win at BeaveRun and then into a tough weekend here at the Glen, and that’s how racing goes sometimes!”

In the Spec Racer event, Ruman Racing ended up fielding two entries, Niki Ruman and Bob Ruman. Niki Ruman, in her #23 rumanracing.com/Dynasty Motorsports Spec Racer, qualified 29th in the 46 car field and moved up to finish 21st. Bob Ruman, surprised everyone by jumping into a Spec Racer on Friday declaring he couldn’t stay off the track this weekend! Ruman, the team owner, competed in a Hagerman RacEngineering Spec Racer and finished 33rd.

Munroe Falls, OH – Amy Ruman and Niki Ruman will both be driving this weekend at the SCCA National at Watkins Glen International, NY.

Amy Ruman is coming off of a win at the June 17th BeaveRun GT-1 National. Ruman will be trying to score her fourth win of the season at this weekend’s race driving the #23 McNichols Corvette.

“The car has been very strong for me this year and my crew has done a great job on setup and preparation, so I am looking to continue my winning streak this weekend,” commented Ruman.

Niki Ruman will be driving her #23 rumanracing.com/Dynasty Motorsports Spec Racer for the second time this season after competing in the April National at Summit Point. “I am really happy to get back in the car again this weekend. The Glen is one of my favorite tracks and we always have great competition in SRF which will make for a fun race,” stated Ruman.

The sisters will test on Friday, have two qualifiers on Saturday, and race on Sunday with Niki in Group 2 and Amy in Group 5.

Munroe Falls, OH – Amy Ruman cruised the #23 McNichols Corvette to an easy third victory of the season at BeaveRun Motorsports Complex in Pennsylvania last weekend. Ruman only faced one other GT-1 on Saturday, Bill Rozmajzl, whose car broke during the second qualifier on Saturday. He was unable to get it fixed for the race, so Ruman was the sole GT-1 competitor.

The team followed a conservative strategy and raced 18 laps of the 30 lap race, while starting on the pole. The rules state that if a driver finishes more than half of a race, it is a race completion. In this case, Ruman was able to finish half the laps and win the GT-1 class for the weekend.

“Unfortunately, not many GT-1 guys showed up for this race! I felt really bad for Bill; he broke the rear-end and that was it for him. We decided as a team to just grab the points and the win, rather than wear down the car racing against myself. I tried to get the track record, but the track was just too hot and greasy by late afternoon,” exclaimed Ruman. “It would have been fun to battle with some others, but I guess we will just take the easy win this time.”

Ruman remains solidly leading the GT-1 Northeast Division 2007 points chase.

Ruman will be back to driving the #23 McNichols Corvetteafter she handed over the keys for the June 3rd Mid-Ohio National to her father, Bob Ruman, who secured the win in GT-1.

“I am really happy to get back into the car this weekend. I was very excited for my Dad when he won a few weeks ago. The crew has been putting together a great car each race this year, so it’s up to me to get out there and win. At BeaveRun there is always close racing, and last year we broke, so I am going to work very hard to bring home a win this weekend,” stated Ruman.

Ruman is currently leading the Northeast Division in the 2007 points chase.

Munroe Falls, OH – Ruman Racing had a driver change this past weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course – Bob Ruman climbed back into the cockpit to compete in a race for the first time since his last run in the Road America Trans-Am race in 2004.

GT-1 was Group 1 for the weekend and, of course, the weather became a factor. Saturday it was dry for qualifying but became very wet for Sunday morning’s race. Ruman took time to get comfortable with the car and was 2nd in the first qualifier; he captured the pole in the eight car GT-1 field during Saturday’s second qualifier. The top three qualifiers were Ruman, Lasco, and McManus.

Sunday morning came early, and the sky opened up and poured rain just as the competitors headed to the grid. Naturally, it became a tire game, sending teams scrambling to decide which tires to run. Ruman decided to change back to his Goodyear slicks on the grid, and most of the teams followed suit. The field started to roll, and once again – the rain started falling. SCCA decided to run two pace laps, which gave the teams an opportunity to change back to rain tires. Ruman pitted on the second pace lap, giving up his pole position to start the race on rain tires. The field was all spread out due to pit stops and Ruman was a half a lap back from the leader, a T-1 class car, when the green flag fell.

At this point, Ruman had to pit again to try and clear the windshield from fogging problems. He made a quick pit stop and the crew sent him on his way. Amazingly enough, Ruman held the GT-1 lead! Still battling fogging problems, another problem arose; the motor became waterlogged and developed a miss. This allowed the second place GT-1, Dick Greer, to really close in on Ruman. Greer passed Ruman coming out of the keyhole over halfway through the race. SCCA was going to shorten the race due to lightning, so he tried to pick it up to stick with Greer. Ruman’s motor healed itself all of the sudden and the two were neck and neck. Ruman regained the 1st place slot as he passed Greer back down the back straight.

Greer tried to challenge Ruman the last few laps but was unable to pass him back. Ruman drove the #23 McNichols Corvette to the checkered flag and claimed the GT-1 victory. Rounding out the top three were Ruman, Greer, and McManus.

“Man what a race. The weather was such a huge factor for all the teams today. Dick (Greer) and I had a great battle going, and I am really happy I came up with the win! My crew did such a great job getting me in and out on our pit stops, I can’t thank them enough,” exclaimed Ruman. “It felt really great to be back racing, but I’m not sure Amy is ready to hand me back the reigns!”

Amy Ruman continues to lead the 2007 GT-1 Northeast Points chase, claiming two wins and a second place.
