Munroe Falls, OH – Coming off of Amy Ruman’s SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series podium 3rd place finish last month at Mosport, Canada, Ruman will climb back in the car at the GT-1 National level this weekend at home town track Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH. Driving the #23 McNichols Co./ Goodyear/ Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette in this weekend’s race, Ruman hopes to capture her first National wins of the season.

“I am stoked to race this weekend in my home state of Ohio. It’s so much fun because many of my home town family and fans will be there to cheer us on,” stated Ruman. “This weekend will be even better because we have two races to run in.”

The GT-1 class is group 4 for the weekend with the official event starting on Friday. There will be a total of four qualifying rounds, two for each race, starting Friday at 9:15 am, 12:55 pm, 3:40 pm and the final round of qualifying will be Sunday morning at 8:00 am. Both races will be 19 laps – 45.6 miles, with the first race starting at 11:30 am on Saturday. Green flag will fly for Sunday’s race at 1:25 pm.

Munroe Falls, OH – The third race of the season was a charm for Amy Ruman and the team scoring 3rd place in Round 4 of the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series this past weekend at Mosport International Raceway as part of the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend. Amy has landed on the podium both times she’s raced Trans-Am in Canada – the last time was last year’s 3rd at the Toronto Trans-Am Street Race.

This was Ruman’s debut running a Trans-Am car at Mosport Raceway; she had previously run there in Pro Spec Racer in 2002. She qualified the #23 McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Corvette in 6th position on a very tight grid for Sunday’s race.

As the 13 car Trans-Am field took to the track, light rain began to fall, producing slick conditions for the start of the race. They took the green flag, and as the field exited turn one several cars got tangled up in a wreck but Ruman made it through unscathed. Ruman was in 4th and got a clean re-start following the 8-minute red-flag for the cleanup of the multicar incident. The rain stopped and the track dried as Ave sprinted out to the lead. There was a three way battle for the top spots between Simon Gregg, Blaise Csida, and Ruman for several laps. Csida and Ruman got past Gregg to hold onto second and third positions respectively for the rest of the race.

“We were determined to improve our results this weekend and we did by nailing that 3rd place finish!” stated Ruman. “I kept improving my times in the #23 McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Corvette throughout the weekend, and we just spent each session trying to improve our setup so we would have a good car for the race. It felt really great spraying that champagne on the podium again!” This was Ruman’s fifth third place finish in the Trans-Am Series.

In West Virginia at Summit Point Raceway, Ruman Racing’s second driver, Niki Ruman, qualified the #23 McNichols Co./Dynasty Motorsports Spec Racer in 5th place. She then secured 2nd place, her best Spec Racer National finish. “It was a great race. I started the race in 4th when a front runner dropped to the back of the field on the grid. There was some dicing on the first lap and I stayed steady in 4th. I was running with the 2nd and 3rd place cars when they came together on the 8th lap and I moved into 3rd. After several laps I was able to set up and pass for 2nd on the front straight,” said Niki Ruman.

Munroe Falls, OH – Amy Ruman and the team will start a fresh weekend of racing as the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series heads to Canada for Round 4 at Mosport International Raceway as part of the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend. The schedule will feature not only the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series, but also the Pirelli World Challenge, SCCA Pro Spec Racer, Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship, and the Sundown Grand Prix Endurance race into darkness classic.

Ruman will test the car during the promoter’s test day on Thursday. The official event begins Friday with a practice session at 1:00 pm, followed by practice session two on Saturday at 10:15 am. Trans-Am qualifying will take place Sunday at 8:45am and the 100 mile/41-lap race will start Sunday at 3:30 pm.

“This will be my first time running a Trans-Am car at Mosport Raceway. I was here in 2002 when I competed in Pro Spec Racer, but it will be a very different feel in the Trans-Am car. This track is really fast and I can’t wait to lay down some horsepower!” exclaimed Ruman. “VIR was a tough weekend on the #23 McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Corvetteand the team, but we are determined to improve our results this weekend.”

Munroe Falls, OH – The Ruman Racing team had a challenging weekend at the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series Round 3 race at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) as part of the Bosch Engineering Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Weekend.

Amy Ruman started off well with two strong practice sessions where she placed 4th. But trouble began on lap two in qualifying when Ruman slid off track and made contact with the tire barrier on the outside of turn 17. She was able to continue to pit lane and then quickly get back on track, just as a red flag came out that ultimately ended the session – putting Ruman 16th on the grid with only one timed lap.

The crew fixed the damage, and got her back out for Sunday mornings warm up session. Ruman ran a few laps to shake down the car for the race, when something broke on the back straight. The crew assessed what they originally thought to be a broken rear differential, but found that the rear lower suspension bracket had broken. With a very short window, the team had to weld and fix the bracket, but they were able to get to the grid for the race.

“We knew something caused me to sail off the track, but everything checked out after qualifying. Good thing we had the warm up before the race,” stated Ruman.

It was 80 degrees and sun was shining for the start of the 100 mile/31-lap race on Sunday. Ruman started from the back of the Trans-Am field, but quickly moved up to 8th position and counting when she started losing power in the car. She turned off everything electrical to try and save as much power as possible. The crew had to call her in under green flag conditions to make a battery change hoping that would solve the problem. While in the pits, a double yellow flag condition occurred, but not soon enough and she fell three laps down. Ruman was able to rejoin the field before going back to green. From then on Ruman was on a mission and passed the entire field except the leader Tony Ave before the checkered flag flew. She finished the race in 10th place in Trans-Am.

“What a frustrating weekend,” exclaimed Ruman. “Nothing seemed to fall our way here at VIR. It is a shame that the alternator quit, because this #23 McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Corvette was on fire when we had power! I have to thank my crew because they worked their tails off to get me back on track every time.”

Munroe Falls, OH – Amy Ruman and the team will rejoin the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series for Round 3 at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) as part of the Bosch Engineering Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Weekend.

VIR’s event begins Friday with a practice session at 11:55 am, followed by practice session 2 Saturday morning at 9:50 am and Trans-Am qualifying will take place Saturday evening at 6:15 pm. Drivers will have a warm-up session Sunday morning at 10:05 am and the 100 mile/31-lap race will start at 1:30 pm.

“I am really excited about the weekend. I like this track a lot and they always draw a big crowd. Last year at VIR I ran in 3rd for the majority of the race, and then we suffered a heart breaker when I endured a mechanical failure with 3 laps to go in the race.
