Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman was back on the Trans Am podium over the Labor Day weekend at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota, where she earned a 2nd place finish. This was Ruman’s fourth podium finish at the Minnesota track in the last four years.
The holiday weekend started out a wet one, as rain soaked the course on Friday morning for the test day. Saturday morning’s official Trans Am practice was dry, but weather moved in again and rained out the qualifying session, turning it into a wet practice session. The field was then set by championship points for Sunday’s race.
Ruman, in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette, started the race in third position just behind Peterson and Gregg on the front row. The field took the green flag under partly sunny skies and a dry track. Peterson was immediately challenged by Ruman, who had passed Gregg for second position during the start of the race. The two battled closely for nearly half the race. The lapped traffic played a role and held up Ruman a few times, and Peterson was able to put a little distance on Ruman. Ruman also had her hands full on lap 27, as Ebben joined the mix and made a pass on Ruman for second. A few turns later on the same lap, Ruman passed Ebben to regain the position. She didn’t look back and took the checkered flag in 2nd place. Ruman also posted the fastest lap of the race.
“It feels really great to be back on the podium again,” stated Ruman. “I have to hand it to my guys, after the No. 23 got all torn up at Mid-Ohio, they put it back together quickly and gave me a fast car again! We are still fighting hard for this championship, but Doug continues to be fast and have really good luck. We still have three races to go though and we’ll continue to push hard.”
Heading into the three final races of the season, Ruman regained second place in the fight for the Trans Am Championship. Peterson holds the lead with 233 points over Ruman’s 194, and Gregg in third at 191.
