Rain Dampens Ruman’s Race at Road America – Brings Home 7th in TA

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After beautiful weather on Thursday and Friday at Road America, Saturday morning was not optimal for the Trans Am Series when they took to a rain soaked track for the morning Trans Am 100 race.

The Round 7 weekend started out fast for Ruman as she was in the top three in every session.  Ruman and her No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette was narrowly edged out of 2nd place in qualifying by only a 10th of a second.  Ruman had high hopes of seeing the podium again at the famous track, but mother nature had other plans.  The race started out very wet from all of the morning rain, and regrettably for Ruman it continued throughout.  The team decided to gamble a bit on the wet setup hoping the track would see drying, which set Ruman back from the field during the race.

“Let’s just say I had my hands full,” stated Ruman.  “We went out on a semi-wet setup hoping we would see a drying line toward the middle/end of the race, but that didn’t happen.  The result – 7th place after a few offs.  It’s definitely not the result we were looking for here, but we managed to stay ahead in the points.  Now things are getting interesting once again!  On to VIR – it’s a must to finish out the season strong and steady.”

Heading into VIR in a few weeks, Ruman maintains the TA class points lead with 175.  Ebben is second with 164, followed by Pintaric with 159 in third.

Ruman Hitting Reset Button Heading into Road America This Weekend

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After finishing 10th at Mid-Ohio two weeks ago, Amy Ruman and team are looking to rebound with a big win at Road America this upcoming weekend in The Trans Am 100 featuring TA/3/4 and TA2 in the ETE REMAN Transmissions Muscle Car 100, Presented by Pura Vida Tequila – Round 7 of the Series’ stop in 2016.

No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette has been prepped and is ready to race at the legendary 14-turn 4.048 mile track, a circuit Ruman has yet to win at in her Trans Am career. “I need to be vigilant this weekend and stay out of trouble. I need to use this weekend to really capitalize on gaining some points heading into the second half of the season – it’s time to hit the reset button and get back having consistent finishes and to winning!” exclaimed Ruman.

Trans Am returns to Wisconsin for its 36th appearance at one of the nation’s most famed road courses and one of the fastest tracks on the schedule, in conjunction with NASCAR Xfinity Series weekend.  Ruman will be up against 17 other competitors in her TA class, with all class entries totaling 54.  Heading into Road America, Ruman still maintains the TA class points lead with 155.  Pintaric is second with 134, followed by Ebben with 129 in third.

The weekend will start off with a promoter test day Thursday August 25th. Two official TA practices and “Fast Five” qualifying will take place on Friday August 26th.  Saturday will feature two Trans Am races – the Trans Am 100 – TA/3/4 at 8:50am followed by the TA2 ETE REMAN Transmissions Muscle Car 100, Presented by Pura Vida Tequila at 10:20 am, both at 101.96-miles 45-laps – all times listed are Central Time.  Visit gotransam.com or roadamerica.com for ticket, full schedule, and all other weekend information.

Adversity Continues to Plague Ruman at Mid-Ohio – Finishes 10th

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman was strong on the track throughout the weekend coming into Saturday’s Round 6 Race of the 2016 Trans Am Championship for the First Energy Trans Am 100 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

In a grueling hot weather weekend with temperatures in the mid 90’s and very humid, the rain and thunderstorms held off for all Trans Am sessions. Ruman, in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette, was first in both practice sessions posting top times and had the top time in a shortened qualifying session until Cliff Ebben pulled out a flier on the last lap to nab the pole.

For Saturday morning’s race, Ruman started on the front row in 2nd place next to Ebben.  On the back straight, after taking the green flag, Ruman and Ebben were charging side-by-side when they made slight contact coming into the brake zone on the end of the straightaway.  The contact broke the valve stem off Ruman’s right front tire and the tire immediately started to go flat. Ruman promptly went to pit lane and the crew quickly replaced the tire and sent her back out before the leaders came by, allowing her to stay on the lead lap.

Ruman went to work and started to make her way through the pack, running lap times equivalent to the leaders. Around lap 14 a double yellow came out for oil on the track and a crash. However, just as that happened, Ruman’s transmission locked in 4th gear.  Unable to get out of 4th gear and into neutral or any other gear, Ruman took a chance and pitted while the double yellow still flew. Unfortunately, the crew was also unable to disengage the transmission and dispatched Ruman to continue the 24 laps remaining with only one gear to use.  The transmission problem severely limited Ruman’s ability to reach the front of the pack, but she still ran very impressive lap times in the 1:27-28’s with only one gear.  She persevered and kept up forward momentum advancing a few more spots until a late race caution halted her rise at 10th place.  The race was shortened due to a lengthy late race caution which brought out the checkered flag on lap 38.

“I just can’t believe it, another very disappointing race for us here at Mid-Ohio. The McNichols 23 was incredibly solid and handled well for the race despite the contact. We were planning to run a steady, patient race today, but all those plans went out the window by the first turn. We tried hard to make the best out of the hand we were dealt today. We’re already focused on Road America in two weeks and I’m confident we’ll have a strong finish there.” said Ruman.

Ruman still maintains the TA class points lead with 155.  Pintaric moves into second with 134, followed by Ebben with 129 in third, Gregg in 4th with 126, and Hitt rounds out 5th spot with 122.

Trans Am Series is Back in Action at Ruman’s Home Track Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Round 6

Munroe Falls, Ohio – The question of the weekend – will this be Amy Ruman’s chance to finally win a Trans Am race at her hometown track of Mid-Ohio?  After several past years of disappointment, Ruman is poised and ready for the upcoming weekend at the 2.258-mile legendary course in Lexington, OH for Round 6 of the Trans Am Championship.

There will be two Trans Am feature races this weekend, The First Energy Trans Am 100 and the Pura Vida Tequila Muscle Car 100, Presented by ETE REMAN Transmissions. The TA races are a part of a massive spectator weekend at Mid-Ohio, which also includes the NASCAR Xfinity Mid-Ohio Challenge and the Formula 4 United States Championship. 59 Trans Am competitors are entered in the combined classes – TA, TA2, TA3, and TA4.

“I’m looking forward to racing back at home this weekend, I love this track – but I need to score a Trans Am win once and for all here!” stated Ruman. “We are coming off a tough race at Brainerd and long summer break in the schedule, so I’m aiming to get back on the podium in front of my hometown crowd.  My crew had the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette completely disassembled during the summer break and meticulously went through the whole car and I’m confident that we will be in contention for the win. It’s time to really put my game face on, with seven races left, every point is crucial so I must remain consistent and focused.”

Ruman grew up and lives in the Akron Ohio area, not too far from the Mansfield track she calls home.  Last year her hope of victory was dashed when a disgruntled competitor took her out of winning contention while she led the race.  Ruman is looking for a fresh start to the weekend and has a positive attitude heading into the race.  It is redemption time for Ruman, as she takes aim at her first Trans Am Series win at this Mid-Ohio on one of the biggest stages of the Trans Am season.

In the first half of the season Ruman captured two wins along with a second place in the opening five rounds.  She heads to Buckeye country atop the points standings in her quest for back-to-back Championships. Ruman is still in command of the TA class points lead despite the tough outcome at Brainerd.  Ruman sits in first with 137 points, Cliff Ebben is second with 110, followed by David Pintaric with 107.

Ruman Retains TA Class Championship Points Lead After Frustrating 9th Place Finish at Brainerd, MN

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After a perfect holiday weather weekend for Round 5 of the 2016 Trans Am Championship at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) in the Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic, Ruman’s race and outcome did not go as planned.

Ruman had her sights set for back-to-back wins at Brainerd this past weekend, but an early race incident took its toll on the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette.  After a shortened qualifying session on Saturday afternoon, Ruman (01:28.599) placed 2nd on the grid just shy of Cliff Ebben (01:28.272) the pole sitter.

The green flag flew and Ruman took the hole shot at the starting line leading the pack into turn 3, Ebben snuck inside on the entry and the two went side-by-side.  Ebben came out first and Ruman lost a bit of traction on exit.  Ruman tried to take a look and make a move inside of Ebben going into turn four and that’s when David Pintaric decided to join the fun, making a late pass on Ruman.  The two tangled with some contact while fighting over the same real estate as Pintaric got by. Unfortunately, in the immediate aftermath, Ruman and Vincent Allegretta (in 4th) came together and went off course.  They both got going right away. A few laps later, a TA4 competitor’s crash brought out a full course caution, followed by a red flag that forced the field to stop on the front straight and turn their engines off due to repairs being made to the track barrier from the incident.

After racing resumed with 61 mins left on the clock, Ruman immediately put her head down and went to work making her way through the field.  Ruman suddenly saw smoke from the front of the car and radioed to the crew that she had lost her power steering. The earlier contact had caused a rupture of a pressure line in the power steering.  Ruman tried to tough it out for a few laps hoping for another full course caution, but was forced to pit.  The crew replaced the line that had sustained damage, and she rejoined the race 4 laps down.  She was able to make up several spots netting her a 9th place finish in the TA class.

“Ahhhhh what a tough day for us.  The McNichols 23 was really fast today and I think we were the car to beat once again.  I set the second fastest race lap, and once the car was repaired I was running as fast as the leaders.  Unfortunately, I got caught up in some racing contact, and later the power steering failed.  But, you know what they say, that’s racing, we will get them next time.  I’m looking forward to Mid-Ohio, my home track, and getting back to winning the next round,” stated Ruman. “I just want to give another shout out to all of our US military and all they do for us day after day, I hope they had a really good Independence Day!”

Ruman is still in command of the TA class points lead despite the disappointing outcome at Brainerd.  In the tight Championship battle, Ruman is in first with 137 points, Cliff Ebben moves back into second with 110, followed by David Pintaric who slips to third with 107.  Paul Fix moves up to fourth with 102 and Kerry Hitt drops to fifth with 99.   Next up will be the First Energy Muscle Car Challenge & The Trans Am 100 Trans Am Championship – Round 6 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course August 11 – 13, 2016. 

Fans will also be able to see both races from Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic at Brainerd International Raceway, which will be tape delayed and broadcast on CBS Sports Network.  The TA/3/4/5 race will air on Saturday, July 23, 12:00 p.m. and the TA2 race will air Sunday, July 31st at 12:00 p.m. EST.
