Four Regional Sponsors on Board – McNichols Co., Kisling, Nestico, and Redick, LLC (KNR), Quicklane Tire and Auto, and Goodyear Tires
TUNE IN ALERT: Amy Ruman will be appearing on Sports Talk with Jeff Alan on Wednesday, August 14 starting at 7:00 pm ET on WMFD TV to talk about the big home race weekend.
Munroe Falls, Ohio (14 August 2013) – After an eight-week break in the schedule, the Trans Am series is back in action this weekend in a big way as the series is set to be a part of the first-ever NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
The Trans Am Series Race Presented by 3-Dimensional.com, part of the inaugural NASCAR Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 event, is a huge one for Ruman Racing’s Amy Ruman, who grew up in the Akron, Ohio area and has long called Mid-Ohio home since first getting a taste of the sport at the track as a young woman being a part of her father’s racing exploits.
Adding even more anticipation to the race weekend is the recent news that the team will partner with two new fellow Ohio-area hometown sponsors. The law firm Kisling, Nestico, and Redick, LLC. (KNR) has signed on to support the team, and the matchup is a perfect fit for the Mid-Ohio weekend, as the firm has offices in Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, and Youngstown. The weekend will also see Cleveland’s Quicklane Tire and Auto at Valley Ford Truck on board as Ruman looks to bring her Buckeye State partners success at Mid-Ohio.
While the Trans Am competitors enjoyed a long mid-summer break, Ruman Racing didn’t let off the throttle one bit, as Amy made the most of the break with a return to SCCA Majors action at Watkins Glen, dominating the weekend with two big victories in July.
For Ruman, who scored three Trans Am victories in 2012 and fought to the last race of the year for the series championship title, the first half of the 2013 campaign has not gone according to plan as she currently sits fourth place in the Trans Am Championship standings. With the Mid-Ohio weekend marking just five races to go in the championship battle, Ruman is hoping that she can turn the page and come out strong in the second half as Trans Am races on one of its biggest stages of the season.
“This is a great opportunity for everyone in Trans Am, to be racing at Mid-Ohio as part of the NASCAR event,” said Ruman. “It’s exciting to be running at my home track and having local Ohio sponsors on board for this race. McNichols Co. is based in Tampa, Florida but has many service centers around the country, including one in Cleveland. It’s awesome to have Quicklane Tire and Auto as well as Akron based Kisling, Nestico, and Redick, (KNR) partnering with us as well. This will be some show for the many fans, friends, and family on hand to support us. Hopefully this is our chance to turn this season around in front of my hometown crowd!”
Last year, Ruman took two poles and one victory at Mid-Ohio in SCCA National GT-1 competition as well as taking a second-place finish in the Trans Am race on the 2.258-mile track.
“We’ve had some very good races at Mid-Ohio, and even though I came home with a second last year, it was great to be racing for the lead right up to the finish,” said Ruman. “We have a good schedule with a lot of track time to work on setup and times and I know we will make the most of it. This is a big weekend for us, so of course we are targeting for a big finish!”
The Trans Am Series is expecting a huge field this weekend, 38 cars are registered between the three classes – TA, TA2, and TA3. The Series is just one entry shy of its all-time high at Mid-Ohio, which was in 1990.
Ruman will be taking to the track in the No. 23 McNichols Co./1-800-HURT-NOW Corvette starting Thursday for a track test day. Friday will be busy for the teams as they will have two practice sessions at 10:00 am and 12:30 pm, followed by one qualifying session at 3:45. The 3-Dimensional.com Trans-Am race will start at 12:00 pm Saturday, before the NASCAR Nationwide race at 2:30 pm. Visit midohio.com for ticket, full schedule, and all other weekend information.
