Munroe Falls, Ohio (19 June 2013) – It’s been less than two weeks since the Trans Am Series was in action at Watkins Glen, and Amy Ruman and her Ruman Racing team are eager to return to race action.
The organization is looking to see their hard work net the results that the team has shown itself to be capable of with several big efforts in recent weeks. This weekend, Trans Am will take to Road America, as Trans Am stages Round 5 of the championship as part of the big NASCAR Nationwide Series event held at the Wisconsin road course.
It has been a very busy and hectic month for the team after its No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette was heavily damaged two rounds ago at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. The group scrambled to get its backup car ready in just a matter of days during the quick turnaround ahead of the following race at Lime Rock Park. After Lime Rock, it was back to the team’s Ohio race shop where they went right back to work on their damaged C6 machine in order to prepare and fix it in time for the Watkins Glen event.
Ruman had been hoping to repay the team’s perseverance with a strong run to the podium at the Glen, but faced disappointment when a distributor rotor failed while Ruman was running second and chasing down the leader. The mechanical issue saw Ruman fall laps down and the team had to settle for a ninth place result at the finish.
Now as Ruman Racing travels to historic Road America, the team returns with a strong history of its own with Ruman having competed at the 4-mile road course in both Trans Am and SCCA GT-1 competition since 2008. Ruman scored her best finishes at the track in 2010 when she finished third in Trans Am and second in SCCA GT-1.
Last year’s Road America Trans Am event saw Ruman enter the weekend targeting her fifth consecutive podium of the year, but she got caught up in a few other competitors’ contact during the race which ended her run to the podium. She was credited with ninth at the checkered flag.
“I can’t say enough about this team – they have stood behind me through both the good and the bad,” said Ruman. “They have worked so hard this month and I’m really hoping we can give them the result they deserve this weekend. Our McNichols 23 was so strong at Watkins Glen – I know we could have been on the podium and maybe even on the top step, but a small mechanical issue caught us out. We’ve just had a little bit of bad luck this year, so hopefully we can shake it this weekend and come home with a great result!”
The race weekend will see Trans Am bring a 35-car field – the highest to visit the legendary circuit since 2000. The event opens on Thursday, June 20 with three 30-minute test sessions ahead of a 50-minute official practice which begins at 5:00 PM. Qualifying will take place Friday at 10:10 AM. The 101.2-mile, 25-lap race is set to go green Friday at 5:45 PM (all times are based on Central Time).
