Munroe Falls, OH – After a record-setting 2011 Trans Am season, racer Amy Ruman is looking forward to an even stronger 2012. Ruman, who closed the 2011 season with a breakthrough run to victory in the final Trans Am race of the year, became the first woman to win a Trans Am race in the series’ long history.
With three podium finishes during the season, Ruman finished third in last year’s championship and has good reason for her optimistic outlook on the 2012 season. 2012 marks Ruman’s sixth year in the category and her new No. 23 McNichols Co./Goodyear/Cenweldsponsored C6 Corvette will give her the best shot at a championship campaign yet as she follows in her father’s footsteps in Trans Am. The Corvette has some racing history behind it, but is new to the Ruman Racing group and marks a large step forward in performance.
“I know there will be a bit of a learning curve with this new car, but the potential with our new Corvette is just outstanding,” said Ruman, who picked up the American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association “Rising Star” Award during the off-season. “Trans Am will be even more competitive this year and I’m very excited to get the season started at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, formally Mosport International Raceway. Of course, we are all going to have to get used to the new name, but it is very exciting what is going on at such a legendary track and it is great to see it in good hands with a bright future.”
The 2012 championship features a ten-race, eight venue schedule and Ruman will look to get some early-season momentum with a podium performance when the season kicks off on May 20 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, as part of the annual Victoria Day Speedfest Weekend with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. Trans Am will travel to various prestigious circuits around the country including Ruman’s home track of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on June 10.
“I have absolutely been counting down the days for the Trans Am season to get started,” offered Ruman of the 2012 championship. “Winning my first Trans Am race at Road Atlanta to finish the year last season was a thrill, and now we’ve got a new car for the 2012 season. I am also pleased to announce that McNichols Company has returned as our primary sponsor for another season of racing!”
