Munroe Falls, OH – Ruman Racing secured very solid finishes this weekend at the SCCA double National weekend at Pocono International Raceway, PA. Amy Ruman nabbed the pole position and victory in both GT-1 races and Niki Ruman finished 10th and 12th in Spec Racer. With these two wins, Amy Ruman brought her 2007 regular season to an end with a total of seven pole positions, five victories, and one 2nd place finish and won the SCCA Northeast Division GT-1 Championship for the second year in a row.
Ruman began the weekend by dominating the qualifying sessions for both races in the #23 McNichols/Goodyear/rumanracing.com Corvette and secured both pole positions. Ruman’s primary competition was Bill Thumel and Jack Busch. In Saturday’s race, Ruman lead from the start of the race to the checkered flag, with Busch and Thumel pressuring only during the first few laps. In Sunday’s race, rain threatened but never materialized. Busch, who started on the outside of the front row, challenged Ruman for the lead and the two went side by side through turns one and two, with Busch inching ahead by turn three. Ruman then made a daring pass into turn one on the second lap, got it done, and then preceded to pull away. In Saturday’s race Ruman finished 17.6 seconds in front of 2nd place Busch; she finished Sunday with a 21.4 second lead over 2nd place Thumel.
“I was very happy with our efforts at Pocono, coming away with two poles and two wins. The McNichols/Goodyear/rumanracing.com Corvette was really handling well and the crew had the set-up just right,” said an elated Ruman. “In the past three years at Pocono I was only able to come away with close 2nd place finishes, but now I have finally won here.”
Niki Ruman, in the #20 rumanracing.com/Dynasty Motorsports Spec Racer, qualified in 16th for both events. She finished 10th in Saturday’s event and 12th in Sunday’s race, both of which had nearly 30 car fields. “Both races were very fun. It was a challenge to keep a good draft going, but that is the hallmark of this track,” said Ruman.
