September 12, 2003 – Munroe Falls, OH – Ruman Racing will field the familiar #23 McNichols/Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette in the famous SCCA Valvoline Runoffs next week, September 15-21, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. For the first time at the Runoffs, the driver behind the wheel of the GT-1 entry will be not Trans-Am driver Bob Ruman, but his daughter Amy.
Amy finished the 2003 SCCA National season with a 2nd place finish at Watkins Glen on July 13, and qualified 6th and finished 4th at the Mid-Ohio National on August 31. “I was out of the car for a few months while my dad was running TA again; then I wanted to run the last national at Mid-Ohio and use it as a warm up for the Runoffs,” remarked Amy Ruman.
Amy completed the season with top-five finishes in every GT-1 race she entered, placing her in 2nd in the Northeast Division points standings and earning her a spot at the Runoffs. The SCCA Valvoline Runoffs bring together the top national drivers from across the country to compete for the title of National Champion in their respective car classes. Only those who place in the top-10 in their Division points standings are eligible to compete.
“I am really excited to be here this year and thrilled that our Trans-Am sponsors, McNichols Co. and Cenweld Corp. are providing special sponsorship for my efforts at the Runoffs. I have been working hard all season to make my goal – the Runoffs. The crew has given me a great car every race, and I know we will be competitive next week. This year’s GT-1 field is going to be tough. I have been running with some of the best like Cowen, Giorgi, Busch, and Cioppettini most of the year, so we should be ready.”
