September 27, 2005 – Contact: Amy Ruman
Munroe Falls, OH – Amy Ruman and the Ruman Racing team had a strong week at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs but were not able to secure their podium finish goal this year.
Ruman qualified 3rd in the #23 McNichols/Cenweld/SafetyToday/Goodyear Corvette. This placed her on the inside of the second row for the start of the race. She had a good start, but had to compensate when pole sitter Lew Larimer dropped a few wheels off in turn 8. This allowed Brian Long to get by Ruman for 3rd. Ruman worked to chase him down and stayed close behind during the race. Maintaining 4th place most of the race, Ruman dropped two positions in the last four laps to Trans-Am driver Michael Lewis and GT-1 driver Brian Kubinski, both of whom gained speed at the end of the race.
“I qualified great, but came up a little short in the race. There is amazing competition at the Runoffs, which really makes for a good battle. I was really aiming for the podium so I can’t help but be a little disappointed with the race results. We had a great car this year with many good races, and a fun, heated division points battle,” stated Ruman. “I want to thank my crew and my sponsors: McNichols, Cenweld, Safety Today, and Goodyear for an awesome year. I could not have had so much success without them.”
