October 05, 2006 – Ruman also Captures Northeast Points Division GT-1 Championship
Munroe Falls, OH – Amy Ruman and the Ruman Racing team will make the final trek of the season to Topeka, KS this weekend to complete the 2006 racing season. The team raced at Heartland Park in early September, where Amy Ruman grabbed a 5th place in the Trans-Am race and a 6th in the GT-1 National race.
After three consecutive seasons finishing 2nd in the GT-1 Northeast Division points standings, Ruman finally captured 1st for the 2006 season. She secured six pole positions, scored three wins, and posted four new track records this year. Ruman won races at Summit Point, NHIS, and Nelsons Ledges. She had two close second place finishes at Pocono and a third place at Watkins Glen. She finished 6th at Topeka and fell out of BeaveRun after breaking an input shaft. Ruman scored her first top-five finish in only her second Trans-Am Series race at Topeka, finishing 5th.
Ruman is headed to the famous SCCA National Championship Runoffs, which has moved to Heartland Park Topeka from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the week of October 9th-15th. The SCCA Runoffs bring together the top national drivers from across the country to compete for the title of National Champion in their respective car classes. Only those who place in the top-10 in their Division points standings are eligible to compete. Ruman Racing will field the familiar #23 McNichols/SafetyToday/Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette in Ruman’s fourth time at the Runoffs. Ruman’s best finish at the Runoff’s was 5th in 2003. She was 6th in 2005, and 9th in 2004 after having car problems during the race. This year’s GT-1 race will be on Sunday, October 15 at 11:20am.
“I am really shooting for the win this year. My team has given me a fast car all season long, now I just have go to work and secure a finish on the podium! We learned a lot when we were here in September, so we’ve made some changes and I hope to improve and put together some faster times,” stated Ruman.
Amy Ruman will also be running in the second round of “Trans-Am Thunder in the Heartland” the weekend preceding the Runoffs, October 6th-8th. Ruman ran the first round in September and started from the back of the pack after Bob Ruman fell ill on the day of the race. This will be Ruman’s third Trans-Am start.
