Munroe Falls, Ohio – The question of the weekend – will this be Amy Ruman’s chance to finally win a Trans Am race at her hometown track of Mid-Ohio? After several past years of disappointment, Ruman is poised and ready for the upcoming weekend at the 2.258-mile legendary course in Lexington, OH for Round 6 of the Trans Am Championship.
There will be two Trans Am feature races this weekend, The First Energy Trans Am 100 and the Pura Vida Tequila Muscle Car 100, Presented by ETE REMAN Transmissions. The TA races are a part of a massive spectator weekend at Mid-Ohio, which also includes the NASCAR Xfinity Mid-Ohio Challenge and the Formula 4 United States Championship. 59 Trans Am competitors are entered in the combined classes – TA, TA2, TA3, and TA4.
“I’m looking forward to racing back at home this weekend, I love this track – but I need to score a Trans Am win once and for all here!” stated Ruman. “We are coming off a tough race at Brainerd and long summer break in the schedule, so I’m aiming to get back on the podium in front of my hometown crowd. My crew had the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette completely disassembled during the summer break and meticulously went through the whole car and I’m confident that we will be in contention for the win. It’s time to really put my game face on, with seven races left, every point is crucial so I must remain consistent and focused.”
Ruman grew up and lives in the Akron Ohio area, not too far from the Mansfield track she calls home. Last year her hope of victory was dashed when a disgruntled competitor took her out of winning contention while she led the race. Ruman is looking for a fresh start to the weekend and has a positive attitude heading into the race. It is redemption time for Ruman, as she takes aim at her first Trans Am Series win at this Mid-Ohio on one of the biggest stages of the Trans Am season.
In the first half of the season Ruman captured two wins along with a second place in the opening five rounds. She heads to Buckeye country atop the points standings in her quest for back-to-back Championships. Ruman is still in command of the TA class points lead despite the tough outcome at Brainerd. Ruman sits in first with 137 points, Cliff Ebben is second with 110, followed by David Pintaric with 107.
The weekend will start off with a promoter test day and official practice 1 on Thursday August 11th. “Fast Five” qualifying will take place on Friday morning August 12 followed by practice 2. The Mid-Ohio races will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network featuring TA/3/4 race airing on Saturday, August 27 at 12:00 p.m. ET, and the TA2 race, airing on Saturday, September 17, at 10:30 a.m. EST.
