Daytona Beach, FL – After a season of highs and lows, Amy Ruman and team finished on a fairly strong note at the 2017 Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli season finale at Daytona International Speedway last weekend.
In a super tight qualifying session for the TA class, Ruman qualified the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette 5th place on the grid for Saturday morning race. However, she would ultimately start 4th as one car did not make the grid.
After sunny weather throughout the week, race day brought morning showers which caused the teams to make tire strategy decisions all the way up to the 5-minute warning on the grid. Most of the field would start the race on “slicks” (dry tires), as would Ruman. The first half of the race saw sketchy conditions, with the track super wet and slick. Ruman maintained a decent race pace and finished fourth in the TA class.
“Wet race conditions are not what we had hoped for today, especially with all of the TA classes running at once,” exclaimed Ruman. “I felt we had a podium car in dry circumstances for sure, but mother nature had other things in mind. Unfortunately, we fell just shy of adding a fourth consecutive climb up the podium here. The fourth place did enable us to capture third overall in the points standings, not too bad after the tough year we had. Simon (Gregg) and I had a good battle for third and it came down to the wire here today. I want to thank my amazing crew – they persevered throughout the season and never gave up on me. And of course, an enormous amount of appreciation to my tremendous long time sponsor McNichols Co. They make this all possible!”
