Munroe Falls, Ohio – After heating it up in Texas last month at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), the Trans Am Series is headed to Daytona International Speedway this week for the finale of the 2019 Championship Presented by Pirelli. At COTA, Ruman qualified the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette fifth on the grid and finished there as well, maintaining third place in the points standings as they roll to Daytona.
Ruman has seen much success at Daytona, taking home victories in 2014, 2015, 2016, and capturing third in 2018. She stands as the most successful driver in Trans Am history at Daytona International Speedway.
“I love this track – I mean who doesn’t! With all the history and nostalgia here and the feelings you get when you drive the high-speed banks are incredible. We have a great track record at Daytona and I’m confident we will finish out the season with a podium finish on Saturday. Unfortunately, Daytona is not on the 2020 schedule and I’m sad we won’t be back next year,” stated Ruman.
While Daytona was the site of Ruman clinching her 2015 and 2016 Trans Am Championships, her run in the 2019 campaign will fall short. She currently sits in third place where she is likely to finish for the year.
53 competitors are entered across all classes for the finale with 15 running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Wednesday through Friday, with both races being held on Saturday. The TA/SGT/GT will be Saturday, November 16th at 10:15am and the TA2® Race Powered by AEM will follow at 11:25am, both races are 100-miles, 40-laps – all times listed are EDT. The 2019 Championship is still undecided the Championship heading into the final round – Ernie Francis Jr. leads the TA class with 287 points with Chris Dyson in second place with 266, Amy Ruman in third –212, Kerry Hitt in fourth – 176, and Tomy Drissi in fifth place – 169 points.
