Munroe Falls, OH - Amy Ruman and the Ruman Racing team competed in their first appearance at Road America’s Piggly Wiggly June Sprints SCCA National in Elkhart Lake, WI, this past weekend. The weather was beautiful and fortunately a sudden threatening rain shower held off for Sunday’s race.

Ruman qualified the McNichols/Goodyear Corvette in 5th in a field of 29 GT-1 cars. She had a good start and settled into 5th for the first few laps. Then came a battle between Ruman, Todd Harris (4th), and Simon Gregg (3rd) for the next two laps. Harris got by Gregg first then Ruman passed Gregg in turn 5 and moved into 4th. It was during this part of the race that Ruman ran the 4th overall fastest time of the race. Ruman then started to chase down Harris and closed the gap to under a second when something went wrong with 5 laps to go in the 15 lap (60 miles) race.

Ruman radioed the crew and told them there was a problem with the steering of the car. Just then a full course yellow flag came out as another competitor crashed hard into the wall on the back straight. He was okay, but officials brought the field to pit lane under a black flag during the clean up. After a 10-15 minute wait, during which the rules forbid crews to work on the cars, the field was sent back out with 4 laps remaining. Ruman knew at this point there was something amiss with the car, but what it was and how serious was unclear, so the team made the decision to stay out and finish the race.

As the field came around for the restart Ruman had a great jump and passed Harris into turn one for 3rd place. There was only one big problem…the car darted left to right in the brake zone as Ruman tried to control the steering! At this point, she tried to hold on and not get into anyone or a wall. While the effort to stay on track was successful, she unfortunately could not run as fast as before and started dropping places during the last 3 laps. Ruman was still able to finish in 8th place. After the race, the crew checked out the car and found the left front suspension’s upper control arm had snapped in half!

“What a race! The McNichols/Goodyear Corvette was fantastic in qualifying and in the race. If it wasn’t for the upper control arm breaking with 5 laps to go, I think I could have held on to 3rd place in the end. It was a wild ride for those last few laps, but given the circumstances, I was really happy to finish in the top 10,” exclaimed Ruman. “Road America is a super track to run on, the fans were great, and I am really glad I got a chance to compete in the June Sprints.”

Munroe Falls, OH - Ruman Racing had a driver change two weeks ago at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course - Bob Ruman climbed back into the cockpit of the #23 McNichols Corvette to compete in a 2008 race. Ruman secured the pole position for the start of the race and lead flag to flag to bring home the win for the team.

“It felt great to be back in the car. I ran this race last year in the rain and won, so I was happy when we had a dry track this year to run on. I focused on jumping out in front and staying there, and that’s what we did,” exclaimed Bob Ruman.

The Ruman Racing team, with Amy Ruman slated to be in the driver’s seat, heads to Road America for the 53rd running of the famed SCCA Piggly Wiggly June Sprints National. There are more than 460 entrants expected for this race, the second largest SCCA event following the SCCA National Championship Runoffs. There are currently 29 GT-1 entrants for this race. One of the reasons drivers compete in the race is to earn the title of winning the Triple Crown. To earn the SCCA Triple Crown Award a driver must win each of the following challenges: the June Sprints National, their home Division’s National Points Championship, and the SCCA National Championship at the Runoffs.

This will be Amy Ruman’s first appearance at the June Sprints and first time driving the Road America circuit. “I am really looking forward to running this race. Road America is an awesome four mile track that I have yet to run on and I am really excited to get the chance to race here,” stated Ruman. “I will be looking for tips from my Dad, since he ran here many times in his Trans-Am days.”

The June Sprints schedule runs from June 19-22 with a test day on Thursday, practice on Friday, and qualifying on Saturday and Sunday morning with the GT-1 race Sunday afternoon at 1:15 CT. For more on the June Sprints event, please visit www.junesprints.com.

Munroe Falls, OH - Under sunny Ohio skies, Ruman Racing had a good Memorial Day weekend showing at the Nelson Ledges SCCA Duel National.

Amy Ruman dominated the seven car GT-1 field in the #23 McNichols Co./Goodyear GT-1 Corvette capturing the pole position for both races with times of 1:01.84 and 1:01.86. She came close breaking the track record in Monday’s race, posting a time of 1:02.70. She holds the current track record at a 1:02.67, and while she was under the record in qualifying, track records can only be set during a race. She lapped the entire field on Sunday and everyone but 2nd and 3rd place in Monday’s race.

“I’m really happy with the two wins we got this weekend in front of my hometown crowd. I wish we would have had a little more close competition to make it interesting, but sometimes it’s nice just to win outright too,” stated Ruman. “The crew has given me a very fast car this year, making it easy for me to drive and put together great laps.”

Niki Ruman qualified the #23 McNichols Co./Dynasty Motorsports Spec Racer in 15th position for Sunday’s race. Following a big crash at the start of the race, which Ruman was able to avoid, the entire race was restarted. Ruman finished 14th. On Monday, Ruman qualified 17th and had several good battles during the race, including a dramatic drag race from the final turn to the checkered flag. She finished in 12th, just 5 one-hundredths of a second from 11th place.

“It was good to be back at Nelson,” said Niki. “I’d been away from the track a very long time and had nearly forgotten how fast and fun the course is. There was some good back and forth racing, especially on Monday.”

Munroe Falls, OH - There were mixed emotions coming from the Ruman Racing paddock this past weekend at the SCCA National in Summit Point, West Virginia. Amy Ruman secured a dominant win from the pole position while Niki fell victim to an on-track incident after qualifying in the 21st position.

Amy Ruman started her 2008 season off strong as she qualified 1st on Saturday for Sunday’s race. Seven GT-1’s shaped up the field, including competitors Bill Thumel in 2nd spot, Jack Busch 3rd, and Scotty Quaile in 4th. Thumel and Ruman had an exciting start drag racing, neck and neck, all the way into turn one. Ruman had the inside track and was able to maintain the lead. Ruman did not look back as she set sail in the #23 McNichols Co./Goodyear GT-1 Corvette and pulled away from the field, leading flag to flag. She set a new track record at a 1:11.29 shattering the old one, 1:12.71, set in 2005. Ruman’s margin of victory over second place was 33 seconds.

“We had a great car this weekend. I knew Bill was going to give me a run for my money at the start, so I just focused on sprinting away from the field,” remarked Ruman. “I’m looking forward to the upcoming weekend at Nelson’s, hopefully I can capture two more wins in front of my home crowd.”

Unfortunately, it rained prior to the start of the Spec Racer race, making the track conditions wet/dry and very slippery. Niki Ruman qualified the #23 McNichols Co./Dynasty Motorsports Spec Racer mid-pack in 21st position and had a great start, moving up 7 positions while avoiding an incident in turn-one. She then had to make an evasive move to avoid another set of spinning cars in turn four, which caused her to lose those gained spots. Then on lap four, two cars ahead of her came together, sending one spinning. Although Ruman tried to avoid the car, she was unable to do so. Ruman’s car suffered left-rear suspension and transmission damage and she could not continue.

The Ruman sisters will be competing in the dual National this Memorial Day weekend at the team’s home track - Nelson Ledges Raceway, Ohio. The team is hoping for some great races in GT-1 and Spec Racer for the home crowd.

Next up:

Munroe Falls, OH - Ruman Racing will kick off the 2008 season at the SCCA National in Summit Point, West Virginia on May 17-18. Amy Ruman heads into the 2008 season with two consecutive Northeast Division GT-1 titles under her belt along with five wins and seven pole positions last season. She will compete in the familiar #23 McNichols Co./Goodyear GT-1 red Corvette. Niki Ruman’s #23 Spec Racer will sport a new paint job and new primary sponsor - McNichols Co.

The Ruman Team is thrilled to announce that McNichols Co. has expanded its 2008 season sponsorship to include not only the Ruman Team’s GT-1 entry, but also Niki’s Spec Racer effort.

“We are totally enthusiastic about our continued partnership with McNichols Co. in 2008. They are a fantastic company and we have had a very successful run with their backing. This season will prove to be another exciting one, and I will drive my best to bring home victories for our sponsors and the team,” exclaimed Amy Ruman.

“With the McNichols sponsorship, I’ve decided to go back to a “Ruman Racing red” paint scheme on my Spec Racer. The paint and graphics on the car are modeled after the GT-1 Corvette, so we will have a team theme on the track in two different classes,” remarked Niki Ruman. “It will be especially fun to kick off the season at my “home” track of Summit Point, which is not far from Washington D.C. We are hoping for good weather and even more fan participation since SCCA scheduled this race later in the spring than it has been previously.”

Munroe Falls, OH - Television coverage of the 2007 GT-1 SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Heartland Park Topeka is set to air this Wednesday on SPEED channel. The race will premier on Wednesday, January 2 at 12:00pm ET and will be re-aired later that night on Thursday, January 3rd at 3:00am ET.

Amy Ruman secured a starting position of 6th for the McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Corvette in the 17 car GT-1 field. In the October 13th race, a first lap incident took Ruman out of the race. Unfortunately, too much damage was sustained and Ruman could not continue the race. Everyone was very disappointed with the outcome of the race for Ruman and the team.

On a positive note, Ruman took home 1st place in the 2007 Northeast Division GT-1 points race to win the Northeast Championship for the second year in a row.

Munroe Falls, OH -After a phenomenal 2007 season and finishing as the GT-1 Northeast Division Champion, Amy Ruman’s expectations were aimed high for a National Championship title this year at Heartland Park Topeka, KS.

After a very long week in Topeka, Ruman qualified 6th on the grid for the race. But unfortunately, Ruman’s dream ended early - really early - on the first lap of the race.

The top six of the GT-1 grid shaped up to look like a mini Trans-Am race. Tony Ave qualified on the pole, with defending Runoffs Champion Phil Simms in 2nd, Mike Lewis in 3rd, Bill Gray in 4th, Simon Gregg in 5th, and Amy Ruman in 6th to round out the first three rows. Ruman, driving the #23 McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette, had a great start and got by Gregg on the front straight. She immediately went to work on Bill Gray for 4th. The field was nose to tail heading into the first part of the course. Then, upon entering turn 6, a tight left hander, Ruman was suddenly drilled from behind by the #09 car driven by Shawn Gray (qualified in 8th). Ruman’s car was knocked sideways, then hit again and pushed to the middle of the corner where she was then T-boned and hit by the #9 car of Jordan Bupp, sending her off-track into the mud.

The corner workers pushed Ruman out of the mud and she limped the wrecked #23 around to the pit lane. The crew tried to see if it was possible to continue, but the car had sustained too much damage.

“To be taken out of the National Championship race like that on the first lap is absolutely ridiculous!” remarked Ruman. “I felt bad for my team and my sponsors, and I felt bad for Jordan Bupp too. Jordan had nowhere to go when he hit me. This was one of the most disappointing races of my career.”

“We had such a great season, so many pole positions and victories and the #23 McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette felt really good on race day. I’d like to thank my sponsors again for all their support during this great season,” exclaimed Ruman.

ALSO CAPTURED NE POINTS DIVISION GT-1 CHAMPIONSHIP

Munroe Falls, OH - Amy Ruman and the Ruman Racing team are heading to Heartland Park Topeka, KS this weekend to compete in the famed SCCA National Championship Runoffs. Ruman and the team raced in last year’s Runoffs held at Heartland Park, where Amy Ruman grabbed 7th place in the race.

For the second consecutive year, Amy was the SCCA Northeast National Points Division Champion for GT-1. She captured seven pole positions out of seven races, scored five wins, one second place finish, and currently holds four track records. Amy won races at New Hampshire International Speedway (NHIS), Nelsons Ledges, BeaveRun, and Pocono. At Summit Point, she slipped into second when it started raining, after leading most of the race. She did not start at Watkins Glen do to car problems.

Ruman and the team will be camped at Heartland Park Topeka for testing and the week-long event Oct. 4-13th. The SCCA Runoffs bring together the top national drivers from across the country to compete for the title of National Champion in their respective car classes. Only those who place in the top-10 in their Division points standings are invited to compete. Ruman Racing will field the familiar #23 McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette in Ruman’s fifth time at the Runoffs. Ruman’s best finish at the Runoff’s was 5th in 2003. She earned a 7th in 2006, 6th in 2005, and 9th in 2004 after having car problems during the race. This year’s GT-1 race will be on Saturday, October 13 at 5:10pm.

“What can I say, I am really excited about this year’s race. It’s shaping up to be a good GT-1 field, and I am ready for this race. We have worked so hard all year long, and I really want to win this race for my team. They have completed some changes to the track which have made the course much faster,” stated Ruman. “Other teams have already been testing on the new track, but we will get our chance to dial in on Friday and Saturday.”
