Munroe Falls, OH – Amy Ruman will look to kick the 10-race Trans Am championship off with a big result this weekend as the series opens the 2012 season with a race at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP) as part of the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend presented by Castrol Edge. The track, which most race fans have known for decades as Mosport, sits some 60 miles north of Toronto and boasts some of the most breathtaking corners on the continent.

One of only three tracks in the world to have hosted a Formula 1, IndyCar, and Can-Am race, CTMP has gone through management and ownership changes through the decades. And with each change has come improvement, from paving the paddock to widening the track. But the core nature of the nearly 2.5-mile circuit has stayed the same. This weekend will see Trans Am race as part of a large card as NASCAR’s Canadian Tire Series, Canadian Touring Car, Porsche GT3 Cup, and F1000 series will all be sharing the track during the busy weekend.

The race weekend is one that has long been a part of the Canadian motorsports scene, and with the facility boasting a new name and an enthusiastic new ownership group to steward the track into the future, the event also reflects the new management and direction for Trans Am.

“It’s exciting for us to be starting the year at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park,” said Ruman, who netted a podium finish in her last Trans Am visit to the 2.45-mile track with a run to third place in 2011 after qualifying sixth. “Every year you have a new optimism for the season. With us having this new Corvette and the series under new management, there is a lot to look forward to in 2012.”

For Ruman, the weekend is one that she hopes to start a season-long campaign in the championship as she is set to debut the new No. 23 McNichols Co./Goodyear/Cenweld Corvette.

“I’m happy that the schedule gives us a decent amount of track time this weekend, because we will be looking to learn as much as we can with this new car,” said Ruman. “We’ve got some laps under our belt with the Corvette, but it is still very early for us. Hopefully we can learn a lot and come out of the weekend with some points and some good ideas about the car.”

The event will open with promoter test sessions on Friday, a Saturday morning practice session at 10:05 AM, followed by qualifying at 5:00 PM. Drivers will have a warm-up practice session Sunday morning at 10:00 AM ahead of the 41-lap, 100 mile race slated to start on Sunday at 4:15 PM ET.

Munroe Falls, OH – After a record-setting 2011 Trans Am season, racer Amy Ruman is looking forward to an even stronger 2012. Ruman, who closed the 2011 season with a breakthrough run to victory in the final Trans Am race of the year, became the first woman to win a Trans Am race in the series’ long history.

With three podium finishes during the season, Ruman finished third in last year’s championship and has good reason for her optimistic outlook on the 2012 season. 2012 marks Ruman’s sixth year in the category and her new No. 23 McNichols Co./Goodyear/Cenweld sponsored C6 Corvette will give her the best shot at a championship campaign yet as she follows in her father’s footsteps in Trans Am. The Corvette has some racing history behind it, but is new to the Ruman Racing group and marks a large step forward in performance.

“I know there will be a bit of a learning curve with this new car, but the potential with our new Corvette is just outstanding,” said Ruman, who picked up the American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association “Rising Star” Award during the off-season. “Trans Am will be even more competitive this year and I’m very excited to get the season started at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, formally Mosport International Raceway. Of course, we are all going to have to get used to the new name, but it is very exciting what is going on at such a legendary track and it is great to see it in good hands with a bright future.”

The 2012 championship features a ten-race, eight venue schedule and Ruman will look to get some early-season momentum with a podium performance when the season kicks off on May 20 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, as part of the annual Victoria Day Speedfest Weekend with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. Trans Am will travel to various prestigious circuits around the country including Ruman’s home track of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on June 10.

“I have absolutely been counting down the days for the Trans Am season to get started,” offered Ruman of the 2012 championship. “Winning my first Trans Am race at Road Atlanta to finish the year last season was a thrill, and now we’ve got a new car for the 2012 season. I am also pleased to announce that McNichols Company has returned as our primary sponsor for another season of racing!”

Coverage of the events can be viewed at www.goracingtv.com with the organization recently announcing its new GoRacingTV app to Apple iTunes and Google Play, the online storefronts for iPhone and Android Apps products and services. The GoRacingTV app is a free feature-rich web application that allows users to keep up to date with all the news and video content from the Trans Am Series while on the go. The independent cable network channel MAVTV will also air the half-hour Trans Am Series weekend recap shows produced GoRacingTV.com the week following each Trans Am event.

With GoPro and Traqmate, we are providing our fans with enhanced coverage and in-depth information. Fans will see the race just as the Trans Am drivers see it – from on board, and those images are going to be HD quality, thanks to the Go Pro camera. The Traqmate system will provide extremely valuable data streaming from each race car. The fact that the Go Pro and Traqmate units integrate into one comprehensive package is simply put, the best of both worlds.”

In March, Trans Am announced it would partner with GoRacingTV.com to provide a unique form of video coverage for the 2012 season, affording Trans Am fans coverage of their favorite race series worldwide.

GoRacingTV.com will provide expanded coverage with the short video vignettes, which will be distributed via the Internet and through the new GoRacingTV.com mobile App throughout the weekend.

The coverage will now include multi in-car coverage and telemetry feed back from the cars on track. Combining these elements will let fans keep up with their favorite series and drivers throughout the season.

“GoPro and Traqmate have been marketing partners of GoRacingTV for several years” said Errol Tucker, we look forward to once again working with them on the Trans Am project.”

As the world’s leading activity image capture company, GoPro produces arguably the most versatile cameras in the world. The famous HD HERO® line of wearable and gear-mountable cameras will be used to deliver fabulous in-car views to Trans Am fans through out the weekend.

The Traqmate is a vehicle data acquisition device that uses a high-speed GPS receiver and high-resolution accelerometers to track and record the speed of a vehicle, its absolute location, and forces acting on the vehicle. Coupled with the GoPro view of the action, fans can see the same data the driver and his crew sees.

“We are very pleased to be working with Trans Am,” said Glenn Stephens, president of Traqmate. “ It’s a racing series with a storied history. And we feel GoRacingTV is the future of motorsports broadcasting.”

Circle track and drag racing tend to dominate today’s motorsports news, but there is another form of competition in which today’s Chevys are finding success—sports car racing. In 2011, both the Grand-Am and SCCA Pro Trans-Am series provided a venue that pitted Camaros against some of the world’s best known (and most expensive) nameplates.

Entering its 13th season in 2012, Grand-Am road racing can be seen on TV on historic road courses throughout North America. With its exotic Daytona prototypes and production-based GT-series cars running together, the Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 is the top of the food chain in this series. Grand-Am’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge (CTSCC) also races two different classes simultaneously with the Grand Sport (GS) and Street Tuner (ST) divisions. Running within both the Grand Touring and Grand Sport classes, fans were thrilled to see Camaros run—and win—against BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, Subaru, Mazda, Dodge, and Ford.

The Rolex GT class features the fastest stock-appearing cars. Autohaus Motorsports came up
Chevrolet won the Rolex Grand Touring Engine Manufacturer’s standings in ‘11, but missed the overall season championship by just two points, as Bill Lester and Jordon Taylor co-drove the #88 Autohaus Motorsports Camaro to one win and three podium finishes. On the Continental Tire Grand Sport side, Stevenson Motorsports broke through to win two events, with John Edwards and Matt Bell driving while finishing Seventh overall. Mitchum Motorsports also placed in the top 10 in season championship points.

On the SCCA side, Chevrolet has had a distinguished history since 1966, particularly in the renowned Trans-Am series. Tony Ave of Maiden, North Carolina, won his second consecutive season title in Trans-Am at Road Atlanta’s season finale in the #4 Lamers Racing/Beebe Racing/Optech/PME Corvette. At the same event, Amy Ruman became the first woman to win in Trans-Am’s 45-year history while driving a Corvette. In the new Trans-Am TA2 class, Camaros dominated the series as Greg Rodgers won the season opener at Sebring in a 2011 Camaro. Despite breaking early on in the final race, Bob Stretch of Arlington, Texas, still won the season championship by nearly 200 points in his #98 Fix Rim Mobile Wheel Repair Camaro.

MIAMI FL Feb. 13, 2012 –Amy Ruman returns for her sixth season of Trans Am Championship racing in 2012, and she’ll be doing it in style – in a much newer Chevrolet C6 Corvette bought at the conclusion of last season.
Ruman closed the deal on the new car just hours before winning her first ever Trans Am race – in last year’s season finale at Road Atlanta.

“My mission that weekend was to get a Trans Am win in the original 23 car before we retired it! Lucky for me, it happened,” said Ruman.

Ruman’s new mount was built by Rocketsports in 2006, and was purchased by Ruman Racing from fellow Trans Am competitor Doug Harrington.

The old mount, a C5 Corvette, had been a Trans Am regular since 1995. It was originally bodied as a Camaro, with Bob Ruman contesting 95 Trans Am races in it from 1996 through 2004. Following Bob’s retirement, Amy took the driver’s seat in 2005 and she’s added 22 Trans Am races and numerous GT-1 SCCA National club races to the car’s log.

Amy has enjoyed success – 19 top 10 finishes, 14 top five finishes, seven podium finishes, and one victory – but she’s more than looking forward to contesting the 2012 Trans Am Series in her new Corvette.

“I’m really excited to run a newer updated car in 2012,” added Ruman. “We ran very competitively for many years. I am hopeful this new car will give me the boost I need to win more races and have a better shot at winning the championship.”

The new Corvette will offer a much improved braking system with better cooling as well as the latest suspension geometry. It will also provide improved engine cooling and it is expected to be much more reliable.

“After we picked up the car, we took it out for a quick test at a local track,” said Ruman. “The test went well, I got comfortable in it and it also gave us a good idea of what changes we wanted to make to the setup. My crew has put in a lot of time “Rumanizing” the new car in the off season. We plan to do some more off season private testing and maybe a GT-1 National race before the Trans Am season gets underway.”

The new #23 McNichols Co./Goodyear/Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette will sport Ruman Racing’s signature red and black trim. Ruman is plans to run the full Trans Am schedule this year. For news and updates on Ruman’s 2012 Trans Am season, follow her on Twitter @rumanracing and on Facebook pages: Ruman Racing and Amy Ruman (Official Fan Page).

MIAMI - Feb 1, 2012 The Trans Am Race Company LLC., today officially unveils critical elements of the Series’ new corporate identity and brand initiatives. A new Series logo, web site and brand identity serve as the centerpiece, underlined with the Series thematic - ‘America’s Road Racing Series.’

“This day has been a long time coming,” said company President, John Clagett. “When we announced the formation of The Trans Am Race Company LLC, at Road Atlanta last fall, first and foremost in our minds was to restore the brand of Trans Am. The series has a long and rich racing history. It bridges generations of race fans and has served as a path to greatness for many of the sport’s iconic drivers. The road to so many of the world’s greatest racing championships passed through the Trans Am Series. Our goal is to restore Trans Am’s future and preserve its legacy. We feel the Series has earned the right to the title of ‘America’s Road Racing Series.’”

As part of today’s unveiling, Trans Am launches their new website at http://www.gotransam.com. The site not only serves to promote the Trans Am brand, but also as a fan portal for current and past information about the series, and as a conduit for disseminating official Series communications and interaction with competitors.

While the branding cues are prominent, it is obvious Trans Am has grasped the future embracing all aspects of web based and social media online platoforms. Fans can subscribe to RSS news feeds (feed://www.gotransam.com/latest-news/rss.xml), Twitter alerts (http://www.twitter.com/gotransam) and join in on the Series’ Facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/gotransam).

“Our primary goal,” added John Thawley, Trans Am Public Relations Manager and president of Creative Communications, Trans Am’s marketing and communications partner, “was to exploit the ‘push’ aspects of online communication. We want to broadcast our information and give fans and partners the means to share and deliver it. I think people will find the site to be attractive, fast loading, easy to navigate and most of all, timely with pertinent information.”

“We set about with a focus on mobile devices,” expressed Thawley. “Research indicates that more and more people are accessing information from mobile devices. Anyone with an iPhone, iPad or other mobile device will immediately notice how well the site fits and functions on that device. It’s built to be mobile… that is the future. In addition, with our integration of Social Media tools, fans can subscribe and get information delivered to their desktops or mobile devices.”

With the new logo and branding, Trans Am is demonstrating its commitment to its competitors, partners, venues and the future.

“This is our identity,” added Clagett. “We are taking this very seriously and are determined to let the racing community know Trans Am is back and we’re back with a vengeance. While we’re well aware of the challenge ahead, we’re committed to doing things right. Our history, our competitors and Trans Am fans deserve nothing less than our best.”

Trans Am will kick-off the 2012 Championship run May 20, 2012 at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada as part of the annual Victoria Day Speedfest Weekend. Trans Am first raced at Mosport in 1976. Ludwig Heimrath was the winner of that race driving a Porsche Carrera RSR. Scott Pruett holds the Trans Am record for the most wins at Mosport with four.

About Trans Am:

Posted from National Speed Sport News:

BURBANK, Calif. — The American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Ass’n has announced its annual All-America Team Tuesday.

Unique in all of motorsports reporting, members of AARWBA each year elect a special team of drivers who represent the broad spectrum of professional motorsports. AARWBA members across the country vote on drivers by the specific category of racing which they participate in and two drivers from each of the disciplines are elected to the first team.

In the Open Wheel Division, Dario Franchitti and Will Power were the choices of the membership. Driving for Target/Chip Ganassi Racing, Fanchitti three-peated as IZOD Indy Car Series Champion this year, and Team Penske’s Will Power sat pole eleven times and won six races in the series on the way to his second place in 2011 points for the open wheelers.

For Road Racing there are two, two-person teams: Scott Pruett/Memo Rojas (Telemex BMW-Riley) and Chris Dyson/Guy Smith (Dyson Racing Lola-Mazda). Pruett and Rojas are the 2011 Grand-Am Champs (as they were in 2010, ’08. ’06, and 04). Dyson and Smith are the ALMS 2011 LMP1 driver champions. Pruett and Rojas have also teamed up to win the 24 Hours of Daytona this past year as well as in 2008, 2007, and 1997.

Bryan Clauson joins the All-America Team (Short Track Division) on the basis of his twin consecutive USAC National Drivers Championships and back-to-back Mopar National Midget crowns.

Clauson drives every style of open wheel short track machine that USAC sanctions and has a winning record in all of them. Kyle Larson also drives them all from Silver Crown to Midgets and did something that made everyone in the business stand up and take notice this year: he entered and swept all three USAC racing divisions at the 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway.

There was simply no way to separate these two All-America Team members who make up the first team in the Stock Car category during the last few races of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase.

In fact, Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards finished the season with identical points totals, Stewart’s win record being the deciding factor in his winning a third NASCAR driver’s championship.

Del Worsham and Matt Hagan are the very worthy representatives of the Drag Racing Category. Popular veteran Worsham won his first NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel world championship, the former Funny Car driver got it right in his first year out of the floppers in the Al-Anabi Racing Dragster.

Hagan, on the other hand, drove his DieHard Dodge Charger Funny Car to a hard-earned championship that saw him win it in the last few rounds of the season, a much-preferred alternative to 2010 when he lost the same title in the last day of the final event.

In the Touring Series voting, Austin Dillon got the nod for being a big winner in a very tough division this year, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Andrew Davis and Leh Keen teamed up to win the 2011 Rolex Grand Am Series/GT Class driving for A. Dano Davis (Brumos.

Josef Newgarden and Patrick Long both join this year’s team in the At Large category. Newgarden is the 2011 Firestone Indy Lights champion winning five races and grabbing three poles over the season. He was also named the Perkin Elmer Rookie of the Year in the same division.

Long won his first Pirelli World Challenge Driver’s Championship in fine style with four wins and four poles in the hotly-contested series. His championship is just that little bit more special because he had to miss one series race to test for the factory Porsche team at Le Mans.

Sports car specialist Amy Ruman will get AARWBA’s Rising Star award in Indy for her work behind the wheel of the McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Corvette. The first woman ever to win a Trans Am race, Ruman finished third in the 2011 points in the hardtops and, along with her season finale win, was on three podiums during the SCCA Trans-Am season.

One other tradition that AARWBA has followed as a long-standing tradition is to elect a Second Team to be honored along with the above All-America winners.

Second team:

Open Wheel — Dan Wheldon (write-in) James Hinchcliffe and Tony Kanaan (tie)

Road Racing — Tony Ave, Max Angelelli/Ricky Taylor (team)

Short Track — Levi Jones, Donny Schatz

Stock Car — Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Kevin Harvick

Drag Racing — Jason Line, Antron Brown
